Wondering if anyone can suggest a good easy to get to spot for a couple of famlies with young kids camping over new year in either SE Qld or northern NSW? Ideally beach side (not beach driving or any 4x4 driving as others in party do not have suitable vehciles), but perhaps somewhere appropriate with plenty of activities for the kids and adults;)

Thinking of heading away from about 27th Dec to perhaps 2nd or 3rd of Jan so about a week away.

I know it will be virtually impossible to find a quiet spot but if possible, great, if not then as long as we find somewhere suitable for young kids (youngest 6 months, eldest 4 yo, total of 7 kids)

Any suggestions welcome either beach side or slightly in land.

Aye, Mick

I can recommend Evans Head. Will be pretty busy for a small town, but lots to do for kids, some beach driving if you really want to but no need to. It's not bush but definitely plenty to do, and even more within a short drive. Apparently decent fishing too.

Hey mate,

This is where we are heading for about a week (2nd - 9th Jan).
Lake Ainsworth - Lennox Heads
Great spot, good facilities, perfect for the wee ones.
Might be tough getting a spot now though.

Other good spot with wee ones is Noosa North Shore Holiday Park (entrance to the beach heading to Double Island).

I tried to go there in early Jan last year. The whole town was booked out. All the camp grounds, all the overflow camp grounds and every single motel room etc. So book early but forget it if you don't like crowds.

However Bundjalung (spelling?) NP is just down the hway a bit and was fantastic. Only amenities were drop toilets. Very quiet. Corrugated dirt road to get in but don't need a 4wd. You can drive along the beach. I think 10kms worth of driveable beach down to Iluka area.
Problem is though that there were limited camper trailer/caravan spots as most of the area was fenced with that copper's log stuff.

Fantastic walks in the area too. Bonus is all the walks are flat. Good beach swimming and creeks and shaded swimming holes.

Hey mate,

Will make sure we avoid this area on these dates then:D:D Only kidding mate, thanks for the info and suspect you are right and may be too late to get in most places now.

Parhaps just head up to my father in laws farm and camp in a paddock........at least there will be no clouds and can try surfing in the dams:angel::eek::D:D

I'm telling you mate, Glenreigh is the place to be  :D

Might be further then you want to drive though, and not exactly on the beach, but the company will be good :o ;) :p

I love this area. Never managed to get into any of those parks as I tend to book late but we stayed for 3 nights at the Big4 Ballina van park recently. It is nice but a bit pricey. You do get the pool, camp kitchen, playground, gym etc etc though. Short walk to the beach (kids might not think it is short though) although wear something on your feet as there are bindies in the grass and the alternative is skin removing hot bitumen.
Also it is right on the calm water (opposite one of the Ballina Council van parks).

When are you there again and are you camping? If not, how what is the nearest camp ground? Also, I assume you would be taking the truck for some 4x4 excursions?
