A mate just sent be a copy of a dvd from 4WD monthly about Bush Mechanic DVD Rangie Vs Patrol.
Where the hosts have $2k to spend on a 4wd and they buy a rangie and a shorty Patrol. And put them up against each other in various trials.
Pretty good for a laugh, any one seen it.

I read a bit about it in 4wd monthly a while ago but I havnt seen the DVD.

Wouldnt mind it though, apparently the Rangie prooved to be more capable and reliable than the MQ as you would expect lol.

Each Vehicle has it's merits. The Nissan was a shorty so it had advantages like at Stockton dunes not getting hung on the crest. It had better tyres.
The Rangie did better on the river crossings by not getting hung up.
One thing that was interesting was the makeshift snorkals, the Rangie did it hard by having to drill out the bonnet yet the Nissan had an angle grinder to make it easier.
Things we all carry when out in the bush.
One thing though you can stick the Wombat poo stew, too much garlic, chilli, jam and cask wine LOL

haha 4x4 monthlys pastime is laying crap on rovers i read an artical a while ago like 6 pages on how crap hill decent control is and why toyota are better my mate who had the mag colects them all his got piles of them and takes it all as gospel. but changed his mind alittle when my standard defender got up his home made travel ramp further than his 4" lifted gq with 35"s

i can see it now how great the nissan is even tho its a load of poo

The main thing that gets me about those "challenges" is they feel the need to trash the vehicles instead of just showing them against each other. (Especially the one with the Jackaroo where they destroy it wedging it through a spot they never should have.

It is more like big kids taking cars out bush...

Most of the jibes are actually tounge in cheek if you read through the articles (although there seem to be fewer and fewer of them)

Don't forget you have to "dumb" it down for the majority, that's why it sells so well, just checkout the average mentality of the postings. (There are a lot of sensible ones too but geez some of it is rubbish)

Got both the DVD's and I wouldn't have bought them, just that they came with the mag (Rangie/MQ Pootrol one maybe) so I look at it as a bonus.

Unfortunatley the mentality of many of the A4WDM forumites is a bit yobbish and simple minded. There's some blokes who really know there stuff but there's plenty of dills on there as well.

For some reason they had to make the Rangie more disadvantaged than the Pootrol fitting AT's to the Rangie and MT's to the MQ. Still was better in nearly every area and the anti-LR antagonist Roothy couldn't help himself with a few snickering remarks. The snorkel bit was painful though

Yep, that Wombat poo stew was stodgy beyone belief just by the indredients :(. Why not chuck in some cow dung to add to the taste while where at it :D:D:D:D:D

Just reading 4X4 Australia and the deputy editor has just bought a Range rover, he was complaining about a very bodgey snorkel that had been punched through the bonnet. Same colour Rangie, i wonder?

They certainly held the rangie back on the beach, that dune he couldn't get up is so easy and i've seen heaps of Rangies nail it.

Ive got both as well. The comments are said toung in cheek, theeditor owns a rangie, the previous editor has a Defender, and the Disco was goven their 4wd of the year in 2005, and would of done 2006 had it not failed.
Its freindly rivelry , unfortunalty the interlectually challenged take it to far and dont relise a dig when they hear it.
