130 tdi... Ive fitted a custom second tank under the tray, have plumbed it all up with a solenoid, everything works just fine, except...

when removing the original tank for a clean and inspection I noticed a bit of pressure was applied to the fuel feed union on the passenger side (the fuel sender / pickup mount) and this pressure has obviously damaged the seal as I now have a lovely leak coming from around the mount.

In the manual it says, remove wire harness, remove fuel feed pipe, "undo locking ring" then remove sender from tank... The question is does the locking ring unscrew or is it folded tabs, difficult to see. Also can it be done with tank in place. Looks possible to remove ring but Im not sure how big the sender is, the frame etc is close, not too much room to angle the unit as it is slid out.

regards
Steve

Can be done in place.

Lock ring unthreads until bayonet style tabs match up then pull the ring out. Lots of plastic under that, easy to break, also it is usually recommended to take off fuel lines before removing sender. Sender is 12-15" long, elbow-y an a bit of a twister to remove.

When I removed mine it had been beaten so many times that PO had knocked off all of the tabs that you whack to get the thing off. You can get replacement lock rings and seals from wherever you get LR parts.

It also needs more pounding than you'd think when putting it back together. Nothing quite like filling up at the servo and seeing all of that pricey diesel coming out around the port seal.

Cheers
Simon
