Have managed to sweet talk the boss into Friday off - looks like a Thursday evening drive to Perth. Will probably be in the Prado though - it's cheaper to drive down there than the Disco (has a company fuel card).

well there is no beer tent and the displays are on 3 times a day.
I think it should have been called 4wd caravan & camping though, as a summary it's worth a 1/2 day if you just look at the 4x4 stuff or most of the day if you walk slowly and look at every stand.
I didn't notice a lot of difference in the price of stuff to normal maybe a few bucks here and there but the stands were selling a LOT of fridges. Most drooled over stuff for me was the iron man 12,000lb winch about $800 and a 40,000 yes 40,000kg snatch strap and I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Quad’s. Repco had a Chinese winch for $550. All the 4x4 stuff you could imagine really if you are into camping or caravans too you will love it.
I was a little disappointed at the 4x4 extreme? display I would have had a go at all the obstacles,(slowly) in my standard RRC except for the big tyre and all the vehicles, about 7 had difficulties with that. Except the RRC ute and a VERY modded zukki. It would have been very entertaining for the soft road brigade though and that RRC sounded awesome.
You have got to watch out for the H1 hummer. Being as objective as possible, it’s utter ****e ! It’s a real nice show pony, engine sound great looks pretty good but ……..well just go and watch he even made up some excuse for not wanting to drive over rocks ! LMAO !!!
There’s two off road display areas so make sure you know which event is at which display area so you don’t miss any, (like I did). When you go in you get a map/schedule. It’s $15 per adult or a family of 4 for I think it was $40 maybe $45 kids under 6 is free. The gate accepts cash only.
The Landy stand has a RR, (not the vogue), two disco’s, two baby Landys and a Defer. I heard one bloke say “see, you just hose it out, now that’s what I want!”
You can sit in them all if you want.
I can see now why the Disco is so popular, to be honest looking at trim levels only there’s not a lot in it between the Disco & and RR. It would be interesting to see which was more capable off road. Not sure about that flip up button for the hand brake though and it seems all the door handles were plastic except the rear door on the Defer. I don’t know why but I always smile at the unpainted rivets on the Defer rear quarter, it’s good some things don’t change. If you want to see a RR sport look opposite the Landy display there is an audio/video stand that’s using one to display it’s “bling” video stuff.
The cyclone and ssanyong stands are present and always good for a laugh.
I still can’t believe I didn’t buy ANYTHING!
Ok so I bought an ice-cream but I don’t think that counts.

The only thing I bought was the LROCWA Recipe book.
I love the recipe for Genuine Australian Camel Stew. The only problem is going to be finding three camels:D
Also checked out the National Luna Defender, which looks awesome. It has a lot of gear on it I hadn't seen before
from a company called Front Runner 4X4 Technology. I think it is imported from South Africa.
I Also learned something else today while talking with the guys from RAW Shock Absorbers. They do suspension kits
with obviously their shocks and Dobinson coils in. They will only provide Kits for a 2" lift, no higher.
I think I might try the RAW Kits next as my front coils are starting to sag.

Yep, that's the one. It is owned by Russell Booth, but I believe he is/has sold it and is buying a new Defender.

Was there today, didnt watch a lot of the 4wd shows as we got there late and wanted to get around and look at everything. My mates comment when he saw your disco was something along the lines of I should get the same mods and accessories.

I went Saturday and wasn't that impressed as it was just the same with even more caravans.
Had a chat to Russel and he has sold that Defender kitted out with all the SA gear for, 44 grand. But no fridge included!
Not bad for a vehicle with over hundred thousand kays on it but in top nick.
He is getting a new Defender to be fully optioned with all their gear to take around various shows.
They certainly make a great vehicle for advertising purposes.
I did look around the new one and had a chat with various people who were interested and one fat little Toyota driver who complained it was too narrow for him!
I told him Land Rover aren't interested in fat little men and to go back to his Jap crap....... was that a bit rude?
It didn't seem as busy as other years to me and maybe the ever increasing entry price is having an effect there.
But just maybe, irrespective of it having a damn computer a new Defender will be on the cards, but I'll need plenty of brownie points to convince the cook I should have one!
Alan.

We were there Friday. Ended up driving the Disco down. Spent a bit of time at the LROCWA tent and met a few people there. I thought the show was quite good - definitely better than anything we get to see in Kalgoorlie. Got a good deal on a roll-out awning for the camper trailer from the Black Widow people - they're dropping it off in Kal for us on their way back to Melbourne.
Also met Russell and had a good look over his Defender - a very well set up vehicle. They have a set of drawers that will fit in the back of the Disco - probably the next purchase.
Have to agree with the previous comments about the Hummer - I suppose "to each his own".
Saturday morning I dropped in at Southern and picked up a dash mat for the Disco - I was pleasantly surprised at the price - $45. I've seen some of these for much more at some of the after market accessory stores. Left me enough change to buy a Landrover shirt as well.

I was very surprised not to see any landy T's or caps for sale at the land stand on the day. I would have been tempted, do you mind me asking how much it was?
Here's a couple of pics from the day:
1. Stuck Zukki
2. Wrong line?
3. making it look easy
4 very modded Zukki
