Hiya,
I recently set up a PC for my folks running Vista and IE7. At the time I set up a bunch of favourites for them to help them get started.
Visited yesterday and found that there were no favourites under "Favourites" on the menu bar. I ran up Windows Explorer and confirmed that they are actually there under Users, but IE7 just doesn't display them.
Also, all the desktop icons have gone, as has the "show desktop" icon from the Quick Launch bar.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Are they logging on as the same user that you set it up with?

Yes. To save confusion there's only one user, so all they have to do is turn on the PC.

Sounds strange, IE7 should just be showing you whats in the favourites folder. c:\users\logonname\favourites.
I'm out of ideas if this doesn't help.

I even added a new favourite while I was there and it didn't show either.

I'm happy with Version 7.0.5730.11.
Works well.
I run XP.

Thanks Inc. This sounds like the issue.
Problems with favorites not appearing in the Organise Favorites window
It has been noticed that if Favorites folders (including subfolders) lose their system attribute they may not appear in the Organise Favorites window.
Try resetting the system attribute from the cmd window using the following command (make sure the path is correct for your machine).
ATTRIB -S C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites /S /D

Well, while down here on hols I thought I'd have a go at finding the problem. What had happened was that somehow the registry had been changed for the default favourite folder to be changed to C:/user/User name/Pictures/ with a very long directroy tree.
Went into Reg Edit and changed the key back to the default setting and all is good.
No idea how this happened.
