Is it possible to obtain details of previous owners of a particular motor vehicle in NSW somehow (via internet?)? Or is this all subject to privacy laws?

Unless it's in the owners book I thinkthat privacy would be an issue in stopping you getting the information.

The NSW RTA restricts knowledge of previous owner to the immediate previous owner (which in many cases is the used car dealer) and whether it has ever been registered as a taxi.

Other information may be available from the records of workshops where the vehicle was serviced, however under privacy legislation they would be unable to tell you.

Your log book may be the only source of information available to you.

SO MUCH FOR THE PROVENANCE OF OUR VEHICLES.
