Hi guys I am about to trade up to a D3 in the next year and after the TD5 was wondering if any D3 diesel owners had experienced any oil leaks?
Please be honest if that's possible, PM me if you don't want to reply in the thread.
Hope this question does not offend but after the TD5 wanting to know what I might be in for with a D3 TDV6.

No major engine oil leaks, if any really, so far from the cars I see.
The diff seals don't seem to last - which is unusual for a Land Rover.
NOT.

There has been an issue with some front diff pinion seals. I believe there is now a TSB for this and it apparently affects only some MY05 and MY06 cars.
I had this problem and it was replaced under warranty.
104000km now and no other leaks whatsoever.
New TDV6 motors will absorb oil and need to be topped up over the first 12000km. After that they're ok.

No leaks anywhere on mine. Done 50,000km which includes Simpson Desert and Birdsville trips.

I've just ticked over 77000km. Just over 2 yrs old. No oil leaks at all. Done a Kimberly Trip from QLD towing a camper van, as well as regular beach and bush trips around SE QLD.
My D1 and D2 both had oil leaks all over. Nice change going to the TDV6 D3 no leaks (yet).

How do you stop it rusting then? ;)

Like Jamo I've done 104000Km but I am worried as there are no oil leaks on mine................must check the dipstick, the driveway is becoming too clean.
In all seriousness no oil leaks a refreshing change for a Landrover.

TDV6 SE, 2 years old, only 40,000KMs though! But not a drop from anywhere whatsoever. Bit different from my 110 with it's self underbody rust proofing transfer box seals! :D

What’s with LRs and oil leaks.
I’m on my 5th LR and none have ever had an oil leak, well nearly never!
My D1 did 240,000 in 4 years and it only developed an oil leak when I put a con rod through the block.
My D2 did nearly 60,000 and no oil leaks.
The 2003 RR did 177,500 and not one drop of oil.
My wife's D3 has 45,000 on the clock and no oil leaks.
And the TDV8 RR just hasn’t done enough ks to know if it’s got any leaks.
AK, my opinion is that you would be unlucky to get one with oil leaks.

I reversed very gently:) into a post and pushed the rear Kaymar bumper into the bodywork on one side about 1 cm which cracked the paint. I have an exposed area about 5mm wide by 5cm long and it has not rusted in 12 months:o including being in the rain and being washed. It looks to me like the metal is zinc plated, is this true:confused:

Oil leaks?
I think most of the Land Rover engines are from Jaguar.
Ford swept through Jaguar (so I'm told) and changed a lot of the way things are made, along with quality control.
The old days of Leyland and Lucas are long gone.
The new Jaguars don't leak oil and neither should Land Rovers.

My D3 has done 65K km and not engine oil leaks. Have noticed a spray of grease from the auto or transfer case on the heat shield but no idea where it is from.
On top of the engine under the plastic engine cover there is a bit of a oil weep where a hose joins a plastic thingy.

I've done 65000km in my My05 TDV6 S and not a hint of a leak. Have tripped to Fraser, Moreton and Carnarvons with a trailer with a round trip to Rocky and back to Toowoomba and not a worry. Love the diesel.

2 years old and 91 000 kms. 1 very minor "weep" front pinion seal. Cleaned up at the stealers 30 000 kms ago and it has not returned.
The move from a TD5 to a D3 is like moving from Hyundai to a BMW. Totally different.

I have seen many D3's in the shop & a fair few now have more than 100k km's.
As said some of the earlier ones have slight leaks from the pinion seal-replace diff assembly-but none of them leak from the engine;)
It makes servicing so much easier for the client & staff.
Happy hunting:)
