rim to guard spacing for 50mm lift

Hello all

I have just recently bought a 98 Disco and I am in the process of deciding on new tyres (mainly size). I am at a loss to know whether the car has had a lift or not. It has Rancho adjustable shocks front and rear, but I'm not sure whether the coils have ever been changed.

I took some measurements from top of rim to bottom of guard for the four wheels as follows:

Rear driver side: 290mm, Rear passenger side: 285mm
Front driver side: 285mm, Rear pass side: 280mm.

For thos that have lifted their Series 1 Disco's could you measure this distance and tell me what it is so I can determine what my current suspension height is.

As an owner of a Disco with 31's- and presumably a lift (from what I can tell) - with 15 inch rims FDS is 300mm. Since you have 16 inch rims, its the same measurement. The best way to check is to find a fellow LR owner with 31 inch or 255/75 -16 as the spare and test it out. On the rear axle, the 31's will just fit. Anything bigger ( ie 235/80-16 or 32 inch) will rub.

According to the Les Richmond website, they should have around a 2.5" bumpstop clearance. After fitting 2" lift lovells to my D1, and after quite a bit of settling, I now have a 2.5" bumpstop clearance. So if I am to believe what I read my vehicle now sits at standard height after my 2" lift. Current heights from top of the rim to the wheel arch are 250 - 260 at the front, and 265 - 285 at the rear. These are up an average of around 30mm from where it was sitting before the lift.

I'll go and measure the bumpstop clearance as well to see what I have.

My question at the moment is related to what tyres to buy as I have only enough moola to spend on tyres and not suspension at the moment.

If I in fact do have a suspension lift already then I'm inclined to go for the 235/85 or 265/75 option (with a camel cut on the rear guards) instead of replacing the shagged 245/75s that came with the car.

95 V8 with diesel springs in front and stiffer ones in back

front bump stop clearance 80mm
rear bump stop clearance 65mm

Front wheel centre to arch 480mm
rear wheel centre to arch 465mm

I have some 30mm coil spacers for the rear that I'll swap with the factory ones to get 15-20mm more in the back

2.5in = 63.5mm

My rough measurements are:
FL 90mm
FR 100mm
RL 125mm
RR 120mm

Which gives a lift of:
FL 26.5mm
FR 36.5mm
RL 61.5
RR 56.5

I'd be surprised if the front of my Disco could go up another inch and still look right as it looks nice and level now.

These measurements were taken with an empty car. About 20L petrol. A full manifold LPG tank on the rear floor that was fitted after the lift was done.

Suspension is 5 years old but only about 50000kms.
