View Full Version : Can't wait for the election to be over...

For the past three weeks, every single day I have had John Farnham's "You're the Voice" stuck in my head:eek:.

Mentioning the word Rudd, Howard, Labor, Election, 07, campaign, Coalition, parliament, cabinet and anything else remotely political sets it off:D

I wish to inflict my suffering upon all and sundry:

P.S. The VEC ought to be disembowelled for using this song.
P.P.S. Howard FTW:o

Is it just me or does anyone else find it obscene the way they all suddenly have all this money to throw around?

All the promises they make which you just know are totally meaningless.

Wish we could shoot the lot of them and start again.

All that money they are throwing around is really "our" money that they have collected as tax.

It is funny in a sick way really. They use our tax money, to promote themeselves to be elected, by us, who then pay them to do a job that most would consider half baked anyway...

Living in a safe electorate does have it's compensations, Monday night I stayed at a mate's place near Orange. I reckon they are punished with at least 50% more political ads on the TV than we get.

You'll be seeing a lot more of her. This campaign is a copy of a 'tried and true' Labor strategy and first appeared 20 years ago as the 'whinging Wendy' campaign. (Bob Hawke 1987). It was also employed in 1993 when Jo Samuels 'whinged' about the Libs, and what they were going to do if they got in...they didn't and Paul Keating won the day....

All political ads end midnight next Wednesday, only a week to go, hooray!

My missus works for a local tv station - says that more than 60% of available ad space has been sold to the various parties, big bucks!

We get an extra dose of 'spin' as both seats here (Richmond and Page) are marginal.

It'll be over soon enough, and as Gough once said 'Vote early and vote often:D'

I think most people feel that way but for some reason the pollies just can't see it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a political party with a real vision for the future instead of just their own agenda?

Quiggers
14th November 2007, 02:34 PM
They do have a vision for the future, frenchie,
trouble is, it has nothing to do with we voters,
getting re-elected in 3 years is far more important. eek:

Remember, it's all about power, the pollies couldn't give a tinkers cus about the 80% of the 'dyed in the wool party faithful' voters who'll always vote for one their party - they're in the bag - they're after the undecided 20%...

Power...

Kim Beazley was dumped, eventually, not because he's a nice bloke, but because he was content with being in the role of the opposition - a no no in politics.

I think this is a point lost on the Libs in particular but the pollies desperate for our vote in general.

The electorate has become more fiscally savvy, thanks largely to compulsory super I think, and people are aware that having more disposable income isn't necessarily a great thing.

I personally hope you are saying this in jest.
****Disclaimer***
I do not intend to announce my support for any candidate on my ballot paper in this forum nor intend to embark upon an ideology argument with the learned folk of this forum.:D

However personally, I believe that I and most of my extended family, are definately better off under the coalition now, then I will be under the ALP in a few years time, should they win.
In no particular order:
Employment: I am a soldier. Historically, the ALP has done no favours for the ADF. In fact many of us 'senior soldiers' cringe at the thought of returning to the hawke/keating Defence Force days - no money for equipment, ammo, salary, fuel etc. No deployments to practice our craft and significantly, much downsizing and razor gangs.
Investments: In order to be self sufficient in old age, I have an investment portfolio - mostly property. Labor introduced capital gains taxation, and tinkered with negative gearing. I fear for their return and my portfolio.
Trade: I am an electronics tech by trade, we have never had it so good! I am not talking about the tradie shortage, but the fact that I am no longer beholden to a union or the fat smelly shop steward! I can and do earn as much or as little as I like, when I like.
Social Welfare: We have a special needs child and have never had so much assistance. Almost embarrassing.

In conclusion, I do not speak for all, just me. Also, my vote is wasted as I'm in Lalor, a safe labor seat held by the witch herself, comrade gillard.

Also, I note that many have indicated that they would prefer better roads, hospitals and schools etc instead of a surplus. I do as well, but I have discounted those as voting issues this time round. Why? They are state issues. I expect my useless state member to deliver those but she hasn't! Those things will only be fixed here in Gods toilet when the people change state governments.
To appease those who believe I have been one eyed, I will vote for the opposition if they can promise that my mortage stress will reduce immediately after the election and all my federal ill's will be solved.

Anyway, my ten cents worth.
As I said, I will not be entering into any further discussions re the election as political discussions are never won :p they just make good landy drivers argue!

eh, what?

Personally, I've got over it. I can't be stuffed caring about anything more than why my local high profile drop-in-to-knock-the-PM-out candidate keeps sending me mail, and nothing to any other voters at my address.

Go on, take a punt. Is it:
a) I'm young and don't have entrenched voting patterns
b) They think I'm the man of the house :o
c) As above, and expect me to make everyone else do as they choose me to do :o:angrylock:
d) They're saving both paper and ink by only addressing to one of the people on the roll at my address, and hoping that, since it's election trash, it'll get seen by everyone anyway
e) I'm bored, can't give a stuff about this post anymore, so lets go look at landies :)

Ralph,

Spot on.
I know how you feel and I also hope that the labor puppet does not make it.

If he does, we are in for a VERY bad time.
Whitlam and Keating will have nothing on this fall out!

I only hope people have some sense of vision and see that.

Reality is, those how vote for Krudd have no idea of economics, how the rest of the world sees Australia, economy, exports, strength of the AUD, and last of all oil!

If Rudd gets in, you can expect to pay $3.00 a litre, for all of the above reasons.
