Fellow Td5 owners,

I am due to take my car in for a checkup on Monday as it makes a heck of a kafuffle, which may be normal, when the car is on boost. I want to put my mind at ease and I would be grateful if I could listen to another Td5 when the right foot is on the carpet....ideally, from the inside of the car which is the only place that I have heard it.

I am on the North Shore but don't mind travelling a little...

Hope you can help.

Cheers
Caine

Hi Caine,

I'm at North Ryde (a bit of a trek) and could (management permitting) let you have a listen to the td5 in our Defender.
However, if you are after the noise made whilst driving, then you'd definitely be better off listening to a Disco, as you'll hear all the rattles and think the Disco is normal!!

Hi thethink....thanks for the offer mate, but I am starting to think this may well be in my head. I have a couple of other issues I will fix first then I will address this one.

PhillWilde, I cannot describe it and am thinking it may be the echo coming off of the road and back in to the car. But I just know that's not it which is why this is eating away at me.

I believe I have a faulty AFM and will more than likely, once I have it confirmed, replace it early next week. Maybe this could have a bearing on something....

I can confirm it does not happen at low revs at any speed. Only seems to happen when on boost. I have performed a very basic test. Whilst not being good for the engine I have found exhaust leaks by placing my foot over the tail pipe with a flat shoe effectively blocking, or at least severely limiting exhaust flow. Whilst I did this asked my wife to listen for taps, whistles and feel for air flow. Nothing. Thing is I can't produce boost without load...

Fix AFM first, then address this..

Land Rover ownership certainly ain't boring

Cheers
Caine
