View Full Version : Fluid Syringes, where to buy and leaky transfer case

Hi all,

My transfer case is leaking. It wasn't leaking until I replaced the 1000 odd mLs of crappy old looking EP90 with 2.3L of nice new EP90 (mineral base).

I'm guessing its either leaking between the transfer and gearbox, as well as out of the base (sump pan type affair) from the looks of it.

Is it a problem if I don't fix it for a few months and just keep checking/topping up as required? It has been an expensive past 3 weeks for the Disco and its time to stop spending:(

Also, where can a decent oil transfer syringe be bought from?

I had an oil syringe, and that resulted in many leaks and mess.

I now use a drum pump, which works equally well out of a 5 litre container, just steady the container when you pump.

let it leak and just top it up, check it weekly for a few weeks to see how long you can run with the leak.
don't worry about a syringe, get a pump from super cheap or such like that screws to the top of the plastic four litre oil bottle, and you can just feed the hose into the fill port and pump until it runs out.
as the same oil goes in the diffs you will find it most useful.
and don't forget it's a british vehicle - it's not leaking, it's just marking it's spot.

My vote for something other than the syringe.

Thanks guys, leak she shall:D

Good ideas with the transfer pumps, I have one that goes onto the 5 litre bottles but it leaks like hell. Must try numpty's 5 litre weed sprayer idea.

Oh and abaddonxi - it's quite a healthy thing to pour oil down the ears - it lubricates the linkages in the brain, hence preventing crap ideas:eek:

My transfer case has always got drips etc. but never needs more than 200mls at any time, even after a trip of 3000kl. I guess that ep90 spreads so easily it looks worse than it is.

I use plastic 60ml disposable syringes as used in hospitals etc, one usually lasts about 6 months, you just need to make sure the plunger is sliding in the barrell before you begin to fill it so it is a smooth push to empty it into the trany case. Its good for being precise with the ammount you want to put in, as I think one of the reasons for trany case leaks is over filling leading to increased pressure.

I bought a McNaughts I think the brand is, from Hare and Forbes (HAFCO). I'm not sure if they're down your way also.
