This evening I was walking across Greythorn Rd towards my Disco when simultaneously a BMW X5 went past and washed its windscreen. I was in the line of fire and the wipers flicked it off all over my shirt and face and directly into my eyes.

Now I have no idea what BMW are putting in their washer fluid but it stung my eyes to absolute hell for about 40 minutes. It has a very strong aromatics smell, like kerosene or mineral turpentine. Eyes are still as red as hell.

Guess it's one of those bizarre well timed coincidences:angel:

Surely it's just a bit of detergent.

Did you rub your eyes by any chance?

They may have one of the bug removers fluids in the wash. Some of them have warnings about getting the fluid into your eyes because of its composition. If it has to get mangled insects of your windscreen it needs to be potent.

I didn't rub my eyes, just stumbled over to the Disco and flushed them with a few tubes of saline soln.

Looks like the "Genuine Land Rover" first aid kit I "bought" without lodging any form of payment just paid for itself:D.

you sure it wasnt done on purpose.....?

in the old days it was fun to point your washer jets out to the sides......and wet people you drove past......
be they pedestrians or other drivers with their windows down.......

or you could fill the reservoir with brake fluid or similar and apply pinstripes to a heap of cars.........

its an old trick ive heard about from those older than me.....
just thinking.......maybe its happening again.....
with mace......

It was even funnier when there was 2 or 3 cars in a row doing it. First one would get em and they would come to the kerb in droves to complain making easy pickings for the followers:wasntme:
