this is an impromptu trip and not official club trip.
i would say using the gclro grading system - blue to black where i will be going.
i don't intend to damage my car.

Thanks Harry,
Had a great day, even if we were outnumbered!
Really tested myself and the car today.:) The boys were horrified when we followed you through that first mud hole....we had the windows down and took in some mud:o:o I hope someone's got some vid. Stevo, how do you get mud off the furry roof liner?
I'll look for scratches and dents tomorrow when I wash it but I think it'll be OK.
That Jeep of Gary's is a goer!
Finally folks, there was some confusion about how to get back on the road (sorry Harry), even Harry's disco didn't know which way to turn.
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/5839/harry1se5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
In all seriousness though, if it happened to me I would have been lost with not a clue, dialing "1800 landrover" to come and get me:eek:. Harry had it fixed in an hour. The man's a genius!
Some video will be posted tomorrow I hope.

justin, that diff guard is getting closer.
not sure how the track rod failed, but sustect the damper failed and the pwr steer just forced it out, oh there were a few rocks, bit when it failed i was just trying to turn around.
we went up landcruiser hill, which is pretty difficult, i had to winch up the alternate track due in part to me being a chicken and an idiot with a gear selection problem
white d3 was just awsome, even the hard core guys were amazed.
steering rod was straightened by using two shackles in the tow bar and just bending it straight, easy as,.

How'd you go getting home?
What was the wash up with the Cherokee?
Oh, and shoot me through Gary's email so I can point him to the vid of his triumphant (he was pretty happy with that one) climb.

This one is of Harry and Gary's cunning plan to use brute force to straighten the steering arm.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5MVcxxA8VQ
This one's of various cars going into a hole full of water (don't know if it has a name). And yes, I did take the D3 through right after Harry but my camera boy got such a fright all we've got is video of the floor of the car with a commentary along the lines of "We're dead....we're dead...".

Landcruiser hill? Well that's what they (The LC boys) called it. Check out the LC (40 series?) at the end of the 1st clip.

Harry trying to start a bush fire using friction....and yes Harry, I cut out the winching section.

Watch Gary's jeep make short work of the final section that caused everyone else so much pain.

Great video's :)
I think the highlights were, "Boys, get away from the edge. Mathew, get away from the edge. Boy's don't throw rocks in the water. Boy's, get back from the edge! " :D
Ah! the fun of a family outing :D

Well, they're boys, which means they don't listen to anything I say.
To be honest Ron, I was concerned about the hard core cruiser guys tagging along with us, leaving a trail of JB & Cola stubbies behind them. I thought they'd either run over one of my young blokes or the boys would end up hitting a car with a rock and I'd be in a punch up.

They were on the turps whilst driving in potentially dangerous situations?

Yeah...well....they were all friendly, patient, etc so no complaints from me. Just very different people to those on the LR trips I've been on. Mind you, if you look at that age poll we LR guys are older (not old:D) than these blokes.

Drinking, thongs, running all over the track. thats why we went south looking for tracks. Recipe for disaster I'm afraid seen it all before.:(

Sadly the Jap 4WD mob tend to attract that sort of crowd. Maybe LR people have better things to spend money on :wasntme: I love a beer at the best of times, but after I have driven off-road and not during. Just go the Landcruiser Park, it's so commonplace they need to bring the booze bus in to stamp out those idiots. Plus it's bloody dangerous and those who do have children it's a concern.

I agree with Justin here, booze and 4WDing is leathal. It should be treated on the same scale as drinking and drive on-road. If you want to **** up, stay at home!!!!

Re- That hill. It's simple if you pick the right line and the Jeep driver did hence why he was sucessful. The vehicle of choice will make a difference but skills cannot be replaced when it comes down to the crunch.

Looked like a fun day out and that's what's important.

the locker works fine, the driver just needs to select 4wd low range,
                          and
                         locked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

somewhat comforting trav,
yep i just stuffed up.
i had thought two or three weeks ago that the 'locked' light had blown a globe, so i though nothing of it, so for most of the trip i did it all as a two wheel drive, and some with a locked rear, no wonder i had so much trouble, when the other makes with nothing were getting the better of me.

yep that rock went a long way fast, just another thing to remember when in those areas, never stand in front of or behind a car, always stand to the side, unless you're on the downhill side of where it may roll on you.
