Having completed major clean out and re installation of windows xp I am now trying to get my Canon Canoscan 5000f to work again. Whilst the document being scanned comes up ok in scan preview, the scanned document is in a format that is unreadable. The pop up box says to "select encoding that makes document reading possible". Windows is selected but there is no way to make this document into a readable format. Please what do I do next to correct this? Jim

If I was you - I'd make sure to visit the canon website and get all the latest scanner drivers and software

What format is the scanned dcument in? Maybe you just need a viewer.
Have a look at the file type and let us know what it is. eg .jpg .bmp .dwg .png
Also, and this sounds mad, but check your country settings are correct in control panel and maybe look in your scanner settings and ensure the default scan setting saves as a standard file type eg .jpg
