Hi folks,
it was back in May that I last posted so I thought I'd better give you an update.
As some of you may know, Rosy and I are now the proud parents of Abby who is my excuse for the lack of progress! Well thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
The bulkhead(or firewall I believe ) was totally stripped so it could be shotblasted and primed. I then spray painted it white. It had been a while since I had done any spray painting but I was happy with the finish I achieved. The wiring loom was cleaned and rebound by Rosy then refitted to the bulkhead. The awkward parts were refitted before bolting the bulkhead back on the chassis. The rest of the dash, pedals, heater etc were then all cleaned and bolted on.
The rest of the brake lines and the clutch line were fitted and have been bled so I now have functioning clutch and brake systems.
I have also replaced the rear trailing arms with QT Services heavy duty cranked ones which look brilliant but more importantly have reduced the stress on the suspension bushes due to the 2" suspension lift.
Smartening up the rear body tub has been the latest big job and has been a total nightmare. The corrosion caused by the body to chassis mounts has been repaired using Alutight and was reasonably successful. The steel cross members were removed to be shotblasted and painted. We then spent ages cleaning the underside of all muck and underseal - not a pleasant job however it was worth it. Once clean the underside was sealed with an epoxy resin bedliner style of stuff. Any surfaces where steel will be in contact with the body were coated with the resin. This will also be used to line the inside of the body tub. Painting the body has been the worst job and weeks later is just about finished. After having the paint react I was forced to strip it back to bare metal and start again.
In preparation of refitting the back body I have fitted the aux. fuel tank, water tank and one of the spare wheel carriers.
Its all looking good now and I think I can see light at the end of the tunnel! In the next few weeks I hope to get the engine running - an exciting time!!
