The rumor (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/28/k-i-t-t-to-trade-pontiac-badge-for-a-mustang-pony/) that K.I.T.T. will be played by a Mustang in the upcoming Knight Rider TV series appears to be true. That is, assuming someone with a lot of time on his hands didn't mock up a Hoff-ified Mustang just for the hell of it. That's extremely doubtful, as the car you see above is actually wearing the body kit of a Shelby GT500KR (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-carroll-shelby-crowns-shelby-gt500kr-king-o/), which isn't easy to come by for weekend projects. Nope, if we take the pic at face value, then the only conclusion possible is that K.I.T.T. will be played by a 550-horsepower Shelby GT500KR in black with silver racing stripes.

K.I.T.T.'s trademark running red light bar has been relocated up and into two nostrils that sit atop the GT500KR's hood. It's a natural fit, though we have to question the silver stripes that, while a trademark of the GT500KR, are totally harshing on K.I.T.T.'s blacked-out super stealth persona.

General Motors is probably a bit bummed that one of its cars wasn't tapped to play the part. But unless show creators agreed to a four-door K.I.T.T. and used the Pontiac G8, the car was definitely not going to be a Pontiac (we hear the Hoff can't fit in a Solstice). And GM is no stranger to stealing acting roles away from other automakers. Volkswagen is probably still ****ed off that a Camaro played Bumblebee in Transformers.

It is a viable vehicle, they can still use the prehistoric CPU as used on the new Ford Mustang and ultilise the Commodore 64 dashboard used in the original Transam car.

The big question is

Has the Hoff got the ability to grow back the 'fro or is it a job for Ashley and Martin?

The return of Knight Rider to the small screen happens in just nine days when a two-hour movie featuring a new Michael Knight and his talking, jumping, cloaking car airs February 17th on NBC. You'd think with such little time left that the movie itself would be finished and ready to go. Not so. A few weeks ago, Will Arnett, the chosen voice of KITT in the movie and upcoming series, was forced to back out because someone realized that he also did voiceover work for GMC. Being a professional grade voice for General Motors doesn't jive with playing KITT in a show that's sponsored by Ford, so the Arrested Development star vacated the role. His replacement: Val Kilmer. Wha?!?!?!

Doc Holliday? Ice Man? Nick Rivers? It's true. Kilmer's a pretty big star for the production to score on such short notice, but then again, Kilmer hasn't had a mainstream hit in a while. Still, why doesn't someone just bite the bullet and call William Daniels, the original voice of KITT who is also known for playing Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World? Admit it, Val Kilmer's synthesized pipes coming from KITT's tweeters will never live up to the high standard set by Daniels. But don't worry Val, we'd say the same thing about anyone they got for this job except for the original voice of KITT.

You'll see more of him this Fall. Click above for a gallery of the new KITT.

The Knight Rider TV movie was not good (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/17/knight-rider-the-liveblog/). The updated, Shelby Mustang-based KITT looked undeniably cool (when not in Ugly... er... Attack Mode, at least), but the acting was wooden and the writing was a horror show. Still, the ending completely set up a potential ongoing story. Today comes word that the ratings were apparently good enough for the suits to give a thumbs-up for a new weekly series starting this Fall. Early reports suggest a Friday night timeslot is in the works, but that's subject to change; all will be known on Wednesday when NBC presents its early upfronts.

We'll assume that at the very least, stars Justin Breuning (Mike Traceur) and Deanna Russo (Mike Traceur's Girlfriend) will return to fill our flatscreens with emotionless line reading. And since voicing KITT should be a relatively easy payday for Val Kilmer, we'd expect him to reprise his role, as well. As for the Hoff, who walked on for a brief cameo at the end of the pilot, who knows? The big winner here is Ford, which now gets an hour-long weekly showcase for the Shelby GT500KR KITT. Based on the stupendously lousy pilot, however, we're going to put on our prognostication hats and set the over/under for this Knight Rider reboot at 10 episodes. Unless NBC ups the quality in a big, big way, the under is a lock.

I am ordering Alex to live blog every single episode like he did the pilot (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/17/knight-rider-the-liveblog/), which probably won't be a long-term commitment considering. - John

Well, this morning, NBC made it official: Wednesday nights this Fall we'll all be able to say "Hello, Mike", as Knight Rider returns to the weekly schedule. The Peacock network unveiled its Fall lineup today and, despite rumors that it would appear on Friday nights, the new Knight Rider is relegated to the Hump night at 8-9PM EST. Encore showings will also run each week on Saturday night from 9-10PM EST. We're a bit surprised, or perhaps disappointed, that the show will be kicking the night off at 8 o'clock, as it suggests adult themes will not be present. Not that we're looking for lesbian overtures in every episode as was brazenly and inexplicably included in the pilot two-hour movie, but knowing that the new KR is sanitized for my nephew's protection is just one more nail in this show's coffin.

Nevertheless, your friendly neighborhood Autoblog plans to watch every episode until the show gets cancelled. Alex Nunez will liveblog each episode every Wednesday night, just like he did the two-hour movie (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/17/knight-rider-the-liveblog/). You're all invited to follow along as Alex poignantly picks apart each episode. Bring a box of tissues, though. You'll need them to dab the blood away from your eyes.

Click above for gallery of KITT from his eBay listing

If news of Knight Rider's return (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/17/knight-rider-the-liveblog/) has you feeling giddy as a schoolgirl (along with dozens of other viewers), maybe you're upset that they swapped the original Pontiac Trans Ams for a Shelby GT500KR in the new series. Whatever your stand, we have something that might interest you. While perusing eBay's listings, a reader stumbled upon one of the original Trans Ams used in the 1980's chapter of the Knight Rider saga. Up for auction is one 1984 Pontiac Trans Am, black and tan, with a distinctive red light bar in the nose. Yep, one genuine KITT.

Not only was this one of the featured cars in seasons three and four, but it is one of the rare 300-mph "Super Pursuit Mode" T/As with additional aero devices designed to, well, make the car look like it could go faster. Actually, the eBay description tells us the Super Pursuit Mode KITT was designed "to give KITT a 40% increase in speed through the assistance of retractable airfoils and jet boosters." Considering that this Trans Am still features a 5.0L V8 and automatic transmission, we would guess that half of that top speed is actually a stretch for this old Pontiac.

Still, with a starting price of just $26,000, the winning bidder can own a true piece of small-screen history. Kustomized by legendary Kar stylist George Barris, this particular car was also used in the 2006 flick, The Benchwarmers. In one notable scene, John Lovitz confesses that he has yet to master the peel out as he drove it across a curb outside the Pizza Hut. Ouch. Hopefully that buffed right out. Check out eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pontiac-Trans-Am-KITT-1984-TRANS-AM-KNIGHT-RIDER-KITT-ORIGINAL-TV-SERIES-CAR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6427QQihZ013QQitemZ 230261543845QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW#ht_19619wt_0) for the complete description and place your bid. Thanks for the tip, Vivan!

Yes! It's the Knight Rider satnav!

By James Sherwood (http://forms.theregister.co.uk/mail_author/'story_url=/2008/06/23/knight_rider_satnav/) [More by this author] (http://search.reghardware.co.uk/?author=James%20Sherwood)

The days when Michael Knight tore across the US in KITT are long gone, but Mio is keeping the memory alive with a Knight Rider inspired satnav.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2008/06/249.jpg Mio's Knight Rider satnav uses the car's original 'voice'. Images courtesy of Auto Blog

According to a report (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/20/knight-rider-themed-gps-system-with-authentic-kitt-voice/) by car news website Autoblog.com, Mio has designed a Knight Industries Two Thousand-themed GPS unit that, of course, speaks all navigation instructions using the voice of William Daniels – the voice behind KITT. Perhaps that means every user will have to be called Michael by default though?
The satnav’s body is piano black to echo the colour of the show’s 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. The unit also features dual Anamorphic Equalizers, aka the red search bar integrated into KITT’s front.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2008/06/250.jpg Dual Anamorphic Equalizers are the icing on the cake

Although, Mio’s model’s unlikely to sport all the same features that KITT’s single Anamorphic Equalizer offered, such as the ability to ‘see’ in both x-ray and infrared wavelengths.
Register Hardware doesn’t know if the satnav will play the show’s theme tune each time you turn it on though.
It’s not yet known when the Knight Rider themed satnav will be available, but it’s thought the unit will cost around $270 (£135/€160). https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2008/11/574.jpg

New KITT Attack Mode revealed at Comic Con

NBC is unveiling the new Attack Mode for KITT today at the very large Comic Con convention in San Diego. ShadowyFlight.com (http://shadowyflight.com/news/2008/07/attack-kitt-reveal-knight-rider.php) is covering the reveal of the car live in its forums, but this image has already made its way on the web and confirms that KITT has had his wings sheared. Gone are the various spoilers that cluttered the first version and what remains is a cleaner car with dual side exhausts, a deep chin spoiler that looks pretty heavy duty, an equally strong looking mesh grille, what appears to be rocket launchers where a shaker scoop would go, a still-very-big rear wing, rear air diffuser and new spokeless wheels that were stolen right off of a Bonneville Salt Flats racer. The rear tires are extremely oversized and still manage to poke out from the newly flared fenders. Is it better than the first Attack Mode version of KITT? Yes. That doesn't mean we necessarily like it, though. The Knight Rider fan community seems split as well. Make up your mind in the comments after visiting ShadowyFlight.com (http://shadowyflight.com/news/2008/07/attack-kitt-reveal-knight-rider.php) for over 20 more additional high-res pics of the new Attack Mode KITT.

News coming out of Comic Con last week (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/25/new-kitt-attack-mode-revealed-at-comic-con/) revealed that KITT would be able to transform into a pickup in the new Knight Rider series set to debut this fall on NBC. We thought perhaps the show and Ford, its biggest sponsor, would take the high road and have KITT's Shelby GT500 KR just grow a bed behind the B-pillar. Of course, we were wrong and this video proves that KITT will indeed transform into a full-size Ford F-150 FX-4. Never mind the fact that a Mustang just doesn't contain enough raw material to make up an F-150 truck, what really turns us off is Ford using a TV show that's already pimping one of its vehicles to push another one with sales falling faster than Goliath over a cliff. By this logic we expect that KITT will eventually encounter a resurrected KARR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KARR_%28Knight_Rider%29) that's been stuffed into a Mercury Grand Marquis and the Knight Industries tractor trailer will be replaced by a fleet of Ford Transit Connects (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/06/chicago-2008-ford-transit-connect-arrives-in-the-state/). As was the case during the pilot that aired back in February, I'll be on my couch with my laptop, liveblogging (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/17/knight-rider-the-liveblog/) the proceedings and adding much-needed "perspective" each week, right until the show's cancellation. Maybe you couldn't care less about the liveblog, though. Or maybe you're just a glutton for punishment. If that's the case, you're in luck -- the Peacock is posting the season premiere online at NBC.com and Hulu.com on September 17, a week before the network broadcast. I'm gonna pass on the sneak peek, because I don't want want to taint my initial reaction to KITT's new Attack Mode (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/25/new-kitt-attack-mode-revealed-at-comic-con/) (above). The Mio Knight Rider GPS is coming soon to a store near you, as long as that retailer is a Radio Shack. The tech store and Mio struck an exclusive deal for the $279 navigation system, which features the original voice of KITT, William Daniels. We were able to try out (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-kitt-shelby-gt500-kr/) the Knight Rider GPS when we had KITT in the Autoblog Garage (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-kitt-shelby-gt500-kr/), and it scored some extra novelty points while also working well as your standard, run of the mill nav system. Anyone who went for a ride in our KITT Shelby GT500KR tester was almost as interested in the talking nav system as the car itself. It's a little disappointing, however, that you can only get one at Radio Shack, though the sub-$300 price tag makes it all better.

The movie was on TV tonight. I managed 45 minutes (at the most) then turned it off.

I just can't get through movies.

The tele-movie was watchable but even an escapist like me found it difficult to stay with episode 1... really hoping the series picks up :(

Oh dear. E! is reporting (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b64794_knight_rider_nbc_gives_kitt_full_season.htm l) that the Peacock has ordered up nine more episodes of Knight Rider, meaning that NBC has locked in the show for a full season, and thanks to our inexplicably popular Knight Rider Liveblog (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/liveblog/), my Wednesday nights are effectively booked between 8 and 9 PM Eastern for the foreseeable future. The show's viewership grew last week by 900,000 and it's doing well with crap-tolerant males in the 18-34 and 18-49 demos, so this isn't all that surprising. Imagine what the numbers would be like if the show were actually any good...

Anyway, see you during Wednesday night's liveblog (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/liveblog/) (and, it seems, a bunch more after that).

Knight Rider has issues (duh), major revamp planned

Knight Rider. It is the bane of my existence, and it is going to get radically changed according to The Hollywood Reporter (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081110/tv_nm/us_knight_1). The current formula is getting canned, as are three of the regular actors -- Sydney Tamiia Portier (http://www.nbc.com/Knight_Rider/bios/Sydney-Poitier.shtml) (Carrie), Yancey Arias (http://www.nbc.com/Knight_Rider/bios/Yancey-Arias.shtml) (Alex), and Bruce Davison (http://www.nbc.com/Knight_Rider/bios/Bruce-Davison.shtml) (Graiman). Knight Rider czar Gary Scott Thompson is calling this a full "reboot" of the show, which follows the partial reboot (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/28/knight-rider-producer-interviewed-turbo-boost-battlestar-galac/) that occurred between the pilot telemovie and weekly series premiere. Why is this necessary? There are two key reasons.

The show sucks. The acting, the writing, Attack Mode K.I.T.T. -- I could go on. For more details, read the liveblogs (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/knight+rider+liveblog/). You will then know what I do: this is crap.
No one watches. KR apologists will talk about how the show plays well with guys in the 18-34 demo, but seriously, these people need to zip it. Last week's episode was beaten outright (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/11/06/wednesday-night-ratings-post-election-blahs-or-just-broadcast-tv/7703) in its timeslot by Cuidado con el Angel. That's a telenovela that airs on ... wait for it, because this is completely awesome ... Univision. So, in an effort to make the show not suck so that more people watch, Thompson says, "We're moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people, everymen." Regular characters Mike, Sarah, Zoe, and Billy survive the rejiggering, and the word is that NBC will look to stunt-cast other actors in the weekly stories to add some juice. (Cough...Hoff...cough). The new-and-probably-still-not-improved KR will arrive in January. If this frantic re-do doesn't yield marked improvements ratings-wise, we expect to see KITT turn into a pumpkin instead of an F-150 at season's end.

Either way, I'm stuck watching it every week. Feel free to join me (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/KnightRiderLiveblog/).

Yay those characters were a absolute waste of space :D

As for the reboot of the whole series... lets see how that goes as wasn't overly impressed (to say the least) of the partial and actually preferred the tele-movie over the new series  but i am a glutton for punishment and do keep tuning in...

but if we want to talk tough vehicles... you don't want to know what modifications i was thinking for my defender after watching Death Race :D:D:D;)

Yes, in the new Knight Rider, KARR is a big robot (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/28/yes-in-the-new-knight-rider-karr-is-a-big-robot/)

by Alex Nunez (http://www.autoblog.com/bloggers/alex-nunez/) on Dec 28th 2008 at 4:05PM
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2008/12/94.jpg (http://knightrideronline.com/news/2008/12/first_image_footage_of_karr_2008_available_now.php )

On New Year's Eve, Knight Rider returns to the airwaves following its extended holiday hiatus. Once the 12/31 episode is out of the way (it's reportedly one of the earliest ones filmed, so expect it to suck miserably), the too-little-too-late "reboot" of Knight Rider will get rolling, with character deaths (yes!) and a story arc that will include a KITT vs. KARR showdown. As in the original series (which seems like I, Claudius compared to the current dreck) Peter Cullen (http://knightrideronline.com/news/2008/12/peter_cullen_returns_as_the_voice_of_karr.php) will provide KARR with his voice. Unfortunately, instead of a two-tone 3rd-gen F-body, that voice will be attached to giant transforming robot. That's all good for Peter Cullen, who knows (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/21/transformers-webcast-pops-up-peter-cullen-confirmed-as-voice-o) from voicing transforming robots, but for Knight Rider it seems pretty dopey, which is par for the course. For a sneak peek at KARR's new form, check out the video snippet (http://knightrideronline.com/news/2008/12/first_image_footage_of_karr_2008_available_now.php ) posted at Knight Rider Online. Liveblogging (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/knight+rider+liveblog/) the final nine episodes (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/21/transformers-webcast-pops-up-peter-cullen-confirmed-as-voice-o) of this catastrophe is gonna be fun, and it all resumes Wednesday at 8pm Eastern.

15 Looks David Hasselhoff Can Pull Off But You Can’t (http://nextround.net/2008/11/18/15-looks-david-hasselhoff-can-pull-off-but-you-cant/)

One of the truths you come to learn in life is that there are many cool looks David Hasselhoff can pull off that you simply cannot. Despite how unfair that may be — much like a receding hairline — it’s simply something you have to come to grips with. Here are several examples:
The Eye Patch. We operated under the impression that the Hoff lost an eye in a freak cigar accident for roughly two years after seeing this look.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_eyepatch.jpg
Cuddling with Two Puppies. How does he look so masculine when you’d look so gay?

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_puppies.jpg
Cuddling with Two Puppies Naked. The Hoff needed to make it clear how much he owns you.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_puppies2.jpg
The Speedo / Leather Jacket Combo. You have neither the chest hair nor the package to pull this off.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_jacket.jpg
Camo Shorts. Remember that time you tried on a pair and looked like a goon? Yeah, the Hoff didn’t have that problem.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_camoshorts.jpg
Drunk and Shirtless Eating a Cheeseburger. Before we watched this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82-FJyniP7A&feature=related) it would have been impossible to believe someone could pull this off with such class and dignity. Just score another one for the Hoff.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_burger.jpg
The Anaconda 3 Poster. If there’s another mutha in showbiz who’d look like they’re taking this role so seriously we’re not aware of him.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_anaconda3.jpg
The 70’s Drug Kingpin Look. The Hoff dominates a Pimps & Hos party like no other.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_70s.jpg
The Sleeveless T-Shirt. Unlike you, the Hoff is prepared to hand out season passes to the gun show every time he slips one of these bad boys on.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_guns.jpg
Rocking a T-Shirt That References You in Third Person. For starters, your last name isn’t all that pun worthy. And no one is printing t-shirts about you.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_tshirt.jpg
Posing with Gary Coleman. Gary looked much more militant that time you had your picture taken with him in front of a car dealership.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_coleman.jpg
The Lifeguard Look. No one ever starts singing “I’ll be there…” to themselves when they see you holding a red buoy over your shoulder.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_lifeguard.jpeg
Looking Surprised on a Rope Swing. That’s all talent folks. No way around it.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_swing.jpg
Practicing Chipping in Drag. Chipping in drag is easy, doing it in front of a cardboard cutout of yourself is the hard part.

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_drag.jpg
And Crying on American Idol. How is it that your friends would still be calling you a homo if you’d teared up on Idol, yet the Hoff seems all the more awesome for it?

http://nextround.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hoff_cries.jpg
It’s good to be the king, folks. It’s good to be the king.

Knight of the Auction: Screen-used hero car K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider up for bid

Hero car K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider is for sale – Click above for high-res image gallery

For sale – Celebrity car. One lightly used crime-stopper of a coupe, has go-fast looks with a fuel-efficient powertrain. If you want attention, this is the car for you. Valued between $25,000 and $35,000.

Looking to add some celebrity "muscle" to your garage? Profiles In History is hosting a Hollywood memorabilia auction and lot #122 is one of two hero cars from the modern version of Knight Rider (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/knight+rider). Surely you recall the series... our very own Alex Nunez sat through every single episode (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/knight+rider+liveblog/) to provide you with details of what was going on.

In the updated show, which first aired in 2008, K.I.T.T. is a Ford Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/model/mustang) that wears Shelby GT500KR parts. The car in this auction has all those parts, inside and out, except it falls short one kind of important aspect: there's no supercharged V8 underhood... or any V8 at all for that matter. And it's not even the good V6 Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/29/2011-ford-mustang-v6-first-drive/). Inside the engine bay sits the old 4.0-liter unit and it's paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. That's right... this K.I.T.T. is all show and no go.

Sadly, the most interesting thing about this car is that it also includes the wooosh-wooosh signature Knight Rider sweeping red light up front. Even that would get old quickly. Buying this car does have its benefits though, as the auction proceeds are being put towards a children's charity. The auction is a one-day affair scheduled for November 6th, 2010 at The Globe Theater in Universal Studios. David Hasselhoff sold separately.
