Unless your going to get them really cheap, I wouldnt bother.
They are a good light but not the best, they have a very weak mounting that breaks very easilly and most models dont fit inside My TJM bullbar and Ive seen them hanging off the front of ARB bars as well which makes them easilly damaged.
A mate of mine had them on his Hilux and every time we went out he would break the mounts, sometimes from just corregations.
Other mates have had them and said they are no better than Hella's or Narva's.
It's just one of those personal choises really I think but Im happy with the Hellas that came with my Disco, They rarely go out of adjustment unless I hit something and they always work and touch wood i havnt broken one yet.

i have 170's on my tjm bar and i really like them.
they have copped a fair hammering and nary a problem yet (touch wood)
dear as, but worth the extra pennies imho.
i have had narvas and they simply dont compete for light output...

If you're already tossing up between the Lightforce and Hella Predators, then I'd go the Predators. They are definitely a better built light than the LF's and put out a better light.
They fit OK on the front of the Disco - these are Predators on an ECB Bar.

Kinda like a grill, a bull bar and a windscreen does already........
Ive heard of people not fitting spotties to XJ Jeeps because of over heating problems and a few for asthetic reasons but Ive never heard of someone not fitting spotties because of fuel economy before.
Everyone has an opinion I suppose...;)

Good shot of the Hella's on the ECB alloy bar, I have the same one. I am currently running Cibie Oscars and in my humble opinion they are cr..p compared to the Hella 4000's that I used to run on the GQ Patrol I had.
The next time another bulb blows in these useless Cibie's they are going in the bin and I am going to fit up those good looking Hella's on my ECB as well.:)

What I found Brad was that you can't mount the Hella's on the original tabs for spotlights on the ECB bar - the lights will be way too high. So I cut the tabs off and polished back to the original bar - you can't see where they were now.
Then I found that if you mount the Hella's on the main channel of the bar, they are about 3/4 inch too low. I have made up a couple of aluminium pedestals to get the right height. Mounting bolt of the Hella bolts through centre of pedestal, and then the pedestal bolts separately to the main channel of the bar.
Also, if you want to get some real performance out of the Rally 4000's when you fit them, get hold of an after-market HID conversion kit and install this at the same time. I've got Predators on the Disco, but also have a set of 4000's with Chinese import HID conversion kits in them that I had on the Prado up until I quit my job last month. Apart from taking slightly longer (almost un-noticeable) to glow back up to full strength after you have had them off / dipped for a while than the Predators do, the converted 4000's put out just as good a light as the Predators for a fraction of the cost. After all, they are the same body, lens and reflector.

RUBBISH
I know lots of guys running them and if they are installed correctly they dont break.
If they are crap then can you tell me why 90% of the Comp guys run them and why alot of guys in Rallying use them........ ohh thats right rally cars dont vibrate or get a rough time....
They are one of the best lights on the market.

Righto Clarkie, thats your opinion and obviously the opinion of some comp guys.
As stated, I run Hella's (as do/did most comp vehicals when I last bought lights )and I know a few people who havnt been happy with their Light Force crap.
You say if they are installed properly, well the Hilux I described had them mounted by a Light Force distributor who sponserd his truck for ute shows and nav run stuff.
Your back into one of your moods where you just have to disagree with anything I say, Good on ya but as you have said to me on a few occasions, it is getting a bit tiresome.

One of my mates at work has a couple of Lightforce 240's on his bullbar and
a couple of 170's on the front of his roof rack on a D1. He reckons they are fantastic lights, but as I have had no experience with them I cannot comment.
I have heard of people for them and against, each to their own I say:angel:
Here is my setup, They were on the Disco when I bought it. 2 X IPF M type Rally's 130W spread (upper) and 2 X Cibie super Oscars 100W pencil beams (lower). The only problem I have had is after hitting an owl, I had to replace the clear covers for both sets. (broke 1 of each). Didn't do the owl much good either:(
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2007/12/136.jpg
I am a fan of Hella lights and would love some predators, but even at my cost they are still too expensive IMHO. I haven't been impressed by the IPF's by themselves, but in combination with the Cibie's I am happy with what I can see on a country road, beach, track etc.

The only thing that you need to consider when mounting lights on top of the bull bar is that it makes the vehical unroadworthy and may cop a fine in some states as does in the roof rack.
Not that it stops anyone but I just thought i'd bring it up.:D

You are right and wasn't sure when I bought the vehicle so I asked a police friend of mine and he said " I was ok to be above the bullbar as long as it was in the forward half of the vehicle".
Now I don't know how acurate that statement was and if it is just WA. I remember reading in another thread on here the other day that it was illegal in Qld. (There goes my driving holiday to Qld).
But I have decided to leave them as is until I eventually get some Predators or I get told to remove the top ones. They have been on there for 7 years now.

Wrong AGAIN
In Victoria the law stipulates that the top of the Auxilary lights must not be mounted any higher than the lowest point of the windscreen.
Hence this is why pods on Rally cars are allowed. Rally cars come under the same ruleing as any car registered in Vic, whether is registered as a CH plate or Rally plate.

Strictly speaking mcrover may be wrong but, in reality, what he says is correct if we assume the bullbar is of normal height and level with the leading edge of the bonnet. Fitting lights there would put the top of the lights higher than the lowest point of the screen and thus make it unroadworthy..

I dont do RWC's but at trade school it was taught that it was over bonnet hight or no higher than 1m off the ground.
This may have changed and no I have no idea of what the regs are for rally cars but I do know that they deffinatly do have different rules and regs than road cars.
Weather or not there are basic rules and then revisions for motor racing Im not sure of so seems your the expert we will have to take your word for it.
But even saying all that, those lights are atleast 4" higher than the lowest part of the windscreen so even by your version of the rules they would still be illegal.

Thanks mate, I was sure I wasnt 'P'ing off everyone, probably just the normal couple of people who seem to have an issue with everything I do.
As far as the legal question goes, it was just a passing comment and wasnt meant to take over the thread and as said before, who really cares if they dont book you.
I keep mine as Road worthy as I can as It makes my insurance cheaper and I have the ability and the time space and money to do so but thats just me.
Even in saying that, I would love to have some of Matts play things and I dont think I would be bothering with RWC or insurance if I did as they are there for fun and thats about it.

just because you can get away with out a traffic/machinery violation means diddley squat in a worst case senario....
the main problem arises when insurance companies or heaven forbid, coroners get involved after an incident.
how they behave has absolutely nothing to do with how law enforcement agencies behave.
if someone goes over your bar and you have welded or addon light mounts and fitted lights then YOU are outside the manufacturers compliances and YOU become liable to a very much greater degree. coroners are increasingly bringing down judgements based solely on manufacturers recommended specs and implied uses.. the more blame apportioned to you , the more it hurts, obviously.
insurance companies are increasingly justifying non payment on claims using the same principles..
some very interesting decisions being handed down of late and there will be some biggies in the near future that may well have some pretty big impacts on 4wds in general i am led to believe....
the cowboys arent going to like a lot of them...

When i make comments about your posts its because you have said something that i find incorrect and i want to correct you. the web is full of misleading facts and why keep them going. Strong true facts are the only way to get the job done.
Do you base your findings on what others have said, or what what is fact and law?? I try to base mine of the law and true facts.
You think light force are crap and hell's are great then thats good.
I know for a fact that light force are not crap and some of the Hella's are. The Latter Rally 2000 lights are crap. the mounts and lense are perfect, the the Bulb holders are crap, they vibrate loose and cause issues. at one stage i know of 4 top rally teams that had Hella as a Sponsor were running Cibie globe holders in the hella lights just to keep them going...
In my opinion, i like the Cibie lights. The super oscars and Oscars are a great light and constructed well. Some of the IPF lights are rebadged Cibie.

Hey outlaw, Im happy to back off if you can stop the PM's coming from a certain member as well.
I havnt posted anything controversial or degrading to anyone, I have agree'd with him on several points as well as said that he would obviously be the expert on certain points.
How much more do you want me to bend to be not seen as being the aggressor.
There are plenty of people on here who have been on the recieving end of Clarkies indescretions yet because I disagree with something he has said I have now copped 2 posts telling me to back off.
No worries, I have upset my fair share of people with some of my posts but I never resort to personal attacks regarding peoples Medication, size and weight or anything personal like that.
For the record, my medication is to regulate my heart rate and not much more which seems it keeps my heart rate around the 80BPM makes it extremely hard to lose weight and exercise.
As far as having any idea of what is or is not correct, when talking about RW, mechanical tech items, who do you believe, a Fridgy or a Mechanic......
I dont know everything and if you think Ive said something that is incorrect then tell me, explain it and I will appologise or I will explain my understanding of it further.
I have done this in many posts and I will continue to do it in the future.
Sorry for the long post that has nothing to do with the subject at hand but I thought it should be said.
In the future, if I find any of his posts degrading or drogotory I will just hit the report post button and then cop the PM's thanking me for reporting his post blah blah blah.....

There you go, a positive outcome.
I like the lightforce lights as they have a good strong mounting system, they have a poly lense, so they wont break as easy and they are focal adjustable.
The Cibie Oscar and Super Oscar are a great light, but starting to become outdated. Newer technology makes the light force better in my opinion than the hella or cibie or IPF equiv.
What do i run? i have a pair of Cibie Turrini
Specs:
Cibie Turini long range lamp. 228mm diameter. This lamp is designed to withstant the worst possible conditions. The body is carbon figre reinforced polyamid with very high resistance to vibration. Corrosion resistance to naval standards. The reflector is silicone coated, vacuum aluminized. Light from lamp reaches 900m X 25m.
I have a Spot and Driving and Fog.... Damn they are good

Had IPF 800's for 10 years and only replaced a couple of globes had the light force for 3 and now replaced both reflectors. I like the light force because I do a lot of night driving and they have an awsome beam but the IPF are still like new

Hay guys,
does anyone in this area have light force lights on their truck show us somepics / or any pic of your light setup
cheers
Mate I just replaced my Cibie Oscars with LF XGT and the difference is amazing. I do a lot of long distance drives where I won't see anyone for 300km so I can get the most out the the LF. When I move back to Brisbane for Uni next month I will put the Cibies back on as I won't have so much of a need for the distance. I will take some pictures on the weekend for you.

My IPFs are also ten years old. Never replaced anything except a few bulbs. Vehicle is parked outside in the rain so there are a few little marks on the crome surface, if i could be bothered i would take them apart and clean them up, maybe last another ten years.
Great light output

Sensational Lights. Or so my wife reckons. Heres her bus after I washed it one day. I took some photos as it is always dirty and looks so good clean. Enjoy!

I will be keeping them as I only just got them. The disco will be parked at uni the whole time so it is just asking for the lights to be stolen. I have Drivesafes wiring upgrade and I have set it up so it only takes 5 mins to swap spotties for trips out of the city where I need for the LF.
