new tyres

I am having a bad tyre/wheel year! Earlier in the year i bought some highway tyres and had trouble with them and find my rims were not round..thats sorted with replacement disco rims. Now I have bought a new set of Maxxiss bighorns tyres to go on my other rims (sunnies) and they seem to have too much runout on them..about 4-5mm each- (I checked this by putting the disco on stands and putting it in drive.) ....This results in a resonating tyre noise at low speed on bitumen and a steering and or general vibration (not massive tho) at about 100. I have given the supplier/fitter the car back this morning to remedy the situation. What do you think is an acceptable amount of verticle runout on a new muddie. In my mind 4mm is too much for a new tyre.:mad: The previous set of muddie recaps had virtually no runout on them.

I would agree with you, ANY runout is not disireable in a new tyre, the road toll is testament to faulty tyres, I have a clear memory of a new road tyre (private van)that blew through the crown of the tread L/H front whilst taking a right hand corner on a mountian, still have the reminder, shortly after said Tyre Coy left the country after a series of tyre failures.

Learn something every day....seems the issue was not the amount of verticle runout as I had thought. Their gun balancer had a go at them and he said the runout was ok but the balance (done by a new young guy) was dodgy. It is now fine! So there you go 4mm verticle runout on a new muddy is not an issue.:)
