Hi mates,
Budget: $ 15000
Looking for County of Defender (Tdi200?) diesel
I use to have a 109 V8 1978 and look for something with coils and power steering (getting old you know :D)
The 15000 have to be enough for a reliable finished vehicle.
Use:To reach places where I can practice my nature photography. I like different images to the ones that we see all the time.
Which is the best vehicle?
Happy Christmas for you all from a disco owner :)

Yes mate I have a look this add. I live about 25 km from Bundy in Moore Park Beach.
I have to sell the Disco first, and hate to bother the owner with questions. I am not the person that like to waste the time of others.
I raised the question because I like to do my research before jump in and I do not can afford mistakes. If I make one, so be it, but at least I have done the best to avoid it.
Just assume that I need a new engine, Do you know how much can cost a second hand Isuzu 4BD1T fitted? I like this engine :)
Do you know if the owner is a member of AULRO ?

Cheers

$ 15000 will get a hell of alot county

Defenders have thinner panels than countys , the early 4 speed countys run the true and tested 4 speed RR classic gearbox which is as strong as you will find

Countys run drum brakes on the rear and come in either 3.9 isuzu diesel or 3.5 petrol v8 engines

The early 200 Tdi defender run,s drum brakes on the rear as well

$15000 will get you a good 300 Tdi defender if you can find one:D

Yes, I know, the idea if I get a County is that with the loose change ;) I can customize the beast to a standard that is going to be reliable and a good ATV.
With old vehicles you never know, they may need a job in the transmission or a new engine (good excuse to fir the Izusu turbo ;) ) and that is when the extra dough coming handy.
A Defender for less than 15000 may need a injection of more money which can be a problem. A 15000 Def for sure will have 200000 + Km done.
It is not easy as it sounds when you one a top vehicle for that money !
Looks like the a County will be the answer.
Looking forward to have one and do not need to tow my YBT (your beauty trailer) I will sell it and the Disco
Any inputs will be appreciated.
Cheers

Defenders are there i paid $ 11000 for mine almost two years ago , it came with a host of goodies and it had only just clocked up 200,000 ks

At least with a defender they have a good chance of only having done the stated ks unlike a county that is a lot older = ++++ ks

Yes good point about the age. I will keep looking for a Tdi 300 because I like the engine, but there are not many on the market. I wonder why :)

I think that any of the two properly maintained once the main issues have been sorted out should last 20 years more if they are not subject to extreme off road work.

There is a 3.9 County advertised in Port Lincoln SA that could be a good buy

Jeff, for that money will be a job for rebuilding ! I am worry about electronics. I have experience in CNC and I am not prepared to risk problems in the outback.
Isuzu or Landy Tdi is for me.
Good luck with the Def

A wagon diesel. By the way I read your thread about converting the County to disc brakes. Very interesting. If I go for the County I will look into that.
I never liked the 109 brakes, but then again every body used to stop to let me pass on the intersections and round abouts :)
