The second battery in my D1 (OK, now it's my daughter's) is in the LHS battery position, just in front of the air cleaner - same as my old '86 RR classic.

Jack is moved between the windscreen washer bottle and the airbox.

Mines the same, the only other thing that needs doing is to move the power steering fliud reserviour.

From memory from my D1, the jack went with the bracket to a position near the brake booster on the drivers side inner guard. It looked original postion for a while until I saw the power steering reserviour extended by a flat steel bar and the ignition coil shifted slightly. The airbox did not have it's trumpet cone on and there was a perfect logical place for a battery between the radiator support panel and the airbox.

I assumed that the previous owner had a dual battery setup as all the right gear had been moved but not replaced to its original position. The actual dual battery wiring and whatever switch gear they used was non existent. There was no trace of it.

Anyway, to install it all into a D1 is dead set easy compared to a D2.

Cheers.

I was willing to wait until I went back to work on the 2nd as one of my workmates purchased the D1 and still has it. I do not know when he will be returning.

But the 'flashbacks' are beginning to occur and so far the bottle jack stood upright with the same rubber strap that the D2 has, which held it all together. The bracket which is L shaped was bolted to the side of the inner guard.

Further flashbacks are a certainty and most likely will occur in the wee hours of the morning

I will let you know :D:D

When I do mine the jack will have to have a new home in the back of the car with the rest of the tools, as the drivers side position is now full of gas converter and wiring, and the ABS spot will be filled with a hard wired air compressor.

Hi All, I have a triple battery set up in my 96D1 (ABS).The first aux is LHS front as per everone else, the second aux is set up as a removable power source so we can take the fridge out of the car.Because I also have LPG, I had to fit a cylinder type air cleaner, relocate the coil to under the air cleaner and move the power steering over.I will try to post some pics, hope this helps...

Mine is similar to that with the battery in front of the air cleaner, but the power steering was moved by the previous owner to be close to the radiator, held by a new bracket, not where it is in the pic above near the engine.
The dual battery isolator is screwed to the front inside panel next to the radiator. The cable to connect it to the 1st battery runs across the top of the radiator. The jack is in the boot.
The result is quite a tight space for the 2nd battery, but I was able to get a 100amp battery in there with a bit of fiddling. I had to cut down a plastic battery tray to make it fit.
So it is doable, with some fiddling.

my hard wired arb compressor sits on the inner drivers side fender engine bay, search my posts there should be a pic somewhere
