Yep, he's done a great job of that Rangie. I don't have that sort of patience and most of my add-ons look as such :(:( But it al works too which is important.

They do look good.....:D

This is a guy I know Pete's which has just had a Coil conversion.

It's had a couple of add ons since these photo's, a pipe type bar on the front with a high mount winch and some lights as well as about 40 layers of wax and polish.

None available from LR Aust. but I can get one in from the UK.

It looks just like the front foglight switch.

Thanks guys, I'm nearly humbled that this thread was started and the comments put forward.

The build up took about 6 weeks coz I am pretty anal about making things right, but the proof has been in the pudding as after near four years the only thing that has gone wrong was a clamp on the rear diff lock line broke and allowed the line to be melted by the exhaust, hence no rear diff lock. Five minute fix in the bush so that was okay.

I'm in the process of fitting a winch bar to the front now so should have more pics up in the near future of that little project. Then on to a dual rear swingaway bumper with hilift jack, spare mudder, and probably twin jerries for the longer hauls.

Gas filler is to the left of the towbar and placed into one of the round pop out sections where the pommies do their trailer wiring.

Over the last couple of months I've been working pretty hard on a defeat solution to the ABS when driving off road. Mine is bloody awful and so many times I'm faced with a rock solid pedal, no brakes, and not enough low one when going down the North face of Everest. Scary stuff.

But, happy to report in that I have beaten the ABS via a dash mounted switch that can be flicked on the move at any speed without fault coding the vehicle and needing a dealer reset.

Details and images to come for those guys with P38's that want to get some good bush use out of them.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

I can't believe after all my trouble that this is available, and so cheap. Does it fit straight into the dash and just give a simple on / off to a driving light relay?

Has anyone fitted one to control their lights who can explain exactly how it works? Does it have a light? Is it one push on and then another push off?

So many questions.

So many questions.Yes (straight in),
Yes (just like a normal, latching switch),
Yes (as previous 'yes'),
Yes (green + normal backlight),
Yes.

Excellent news Scott. Can you pass on the part number and pop up a picture of the fitted switch if you happen to have a spare moment please.

I know p38 owners who'd be very interested in more details. Will be waiting patiently.:)

Nice write up.
Lots of similar things done to your rig that Ive done to mine.

You might be interested to know that I have the original winch as supplied for the P38 fitted. I am happy to share the pics with you. Im also melb based. Its quite a simple rig, you could make one up yourself and copy mine if you like. Dont need a new bumper then!

Also, I know your looking for a rear wheel swingaway. Im also after the same.
I took photos of one down in a dealers in Murrumbeena. He woudnt part with it unfortunately. Its a Kaymar. Im looking at replacing the rear bumper, but will probably modify and existing bar thats available. Any suggestions? Maybe cheap for 2+ of them?

I have also a dual battery (twin yellow top odysseys). Rear is located in a marine box in the boot. Good idea of yours mounting the battery in the spare wheel well! Question, I ran my cable thru the interior just under the side rails. Just a bit worried that an impact into the side could short the cable. You done anything about that?

Hey Karlz

You have the DSE hey? how do you find it?

And how did you get it? import it from the UK?

I am looking to convert my 4L V8 to a 2.8TD.

I like it, was a bit gutless as standard.
I replaced the intercooler and chip and a significant improvement.
Not far off the v8 now! Jeremy Fearn supplied the kit Jeremy J Fearn Intercoolers, motor engineers and 4X4 specialists (http://www.jeremyjfearn.co.uk)

I actually bought the vehicle from the UK when I was working in Europe.
That was in 1999. Since then its travelled with me to Asia and Aust. I shipped it several times. I finally made it back to aust in 2007 so imported it using the Personal Import Scheme.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ron,

Just viewed your photo's they are superb! I picked up a Rangy P38A HSE 8 cyl - at the auction the other day - have no idea about these, but my husband has always wanted one! I am missing part of the motor? Have included photos - hope you can help and let me know what part it is - A guy at the auction told me it was a sensor?

Also do you know how I can get hold of another key? I have read up on resetting the keys etc. My rangy looks exactly the same as yours - don't know what the differences are?

As far as I know it has come from Cocos Island ex Government and it has only done 11000 kms

Seems like a great site to be a part of - especially as I am so illiterate about cars!

Thanks in advance for your help,

Cheers

Kris

Chris, that's missing an important part of the fuel injection system, the MAF sensor.

It's not cheap, either.

11,000km! Wow! It should be a good one. Come over and have a look at Range Rovers (http://rangerovers.net) - we have a P38A section and I'm one of the Administrators there (I'm the one who will approve and activate your registration).
