I have just purchased an e-Trex Vista to use bushwalking but cannot find any suitable digital topo maps to use with PC / GPS.
Have heard of Maptrax but they are no longer scanning and calibrating for sale.
Any help appreciated.

Try "Shonky Maps" (Google it). they have a set of Aust topo maps that are quite good. Its a big download (330Mb) but its pretty good
Have fun

Shonky is what I would suggest for etrex.
If you're interested for online topos (as an aside) try Hey, what's that? (http://www.heywhatsthat.com/)

A couple of places top start
GPS Australia - powered by vBulletin (http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/)
and
https://www.ga.gov.au/products/servlet/controller?event=DEFINE_PRODUCTS
you will have to sign up for both lots and the Geoscience Aust you will have to agree to conditions (IIRC) but it shouldn't be any issue.
From memory there was a DVD of NSW and Vic topos circulating on this forum - you need to update your profile to show where you are located
