why would a PC not post past
"verifying DMI pool data"
?

yea,, a hard drive.
cmos is set to auto detect,,,
have tried it with no drives attached,,
oh, and no beeps.

check the jumper pins on the hard drive make sure it is set to master

...or slave if it is the second drive!
Also check the BIOS Is set to boot from the correct drive if you have more than one.

Had one the other day where the HDD was set to Master with Slave present.
It wasn't happy without the slave.

its a samsung drive,,
the only info I can find on samsung jumpers says
one joining the bottom two left pins(horizontal)
and one on the last two on the right(vertical)
the drive is on the end of the ide cable,
???????

what a mystery,,
have played around with MBR's and other stuff on Hirens Boot Cd,, deleted and reformated in fat32 using SuperFdisk, deleted and reformated into NTFS using partition manager, and it loaded windows files and kept on going---
will now try to add my other drive to copy some files over,,
gawd I hate XP "straight out of the box"
I am quite enjoying Vista though---:D
