Can't help with bolt sizes etc, but you should note that most if not all bolts on the Series 1 are BSF or, in very small sizes BA. These will be hard to find, especially galvanised as many body bolts are. Because of this you are likely to find that a lot have been replaced with Whitworth or UNF or perhaps even metric bolts. Very few places should use bolts as coarse a thread as Whitworth, but unless you are sticking to originality UNF is acceptable, and these are generally available, although your fastener supplier will probably have to order in galvanised (not zinc plated ) ones.

Metric bolts are probably not a very good idea, partly because it means using a different set of spanners (same argument to some extent against UNF) but also because they will not fit holes properly - not that this is a problem with most body bolts!

Stainless steel bolts are sometimes used, but again, originality suffers, and they encourage corrosion of the gavanised capping and alloy panels, which the galvanised ones don't. But they may be justified if you live right on the seashore.

I believe there are UK suppliers who will supply kits of bolts for body restoration, but I am not sure what threads they are.

The S1 gear box and transfer case are very easy to work on, you can easily rebuild both over a week end, bearings, seals and gaskets are readily available from several sources and are pretty cheap about $300 will buy you the lot.
A set of Whitworth ring spanners and basic workshop tools are all you need.

Dunno about anyone else but I reckon I've seen about 6 messages, PM's and emails from this bloke. So he must be keen to find a firewall :D;)
