Hi guys, the tacho in my 98 petrol disco is jumping around when cruising, it appears to be steady during acceleration.Any clues to it's complaint?

I had a 97 D1 v8 for about 12 months (9 years ago !), and had the same problem. It was fixed under warranty (took the dealer about ten minutes), but for the life of me I cannot remember what the problem was.
I am pretty sure that it wasn't some major $$$ part that was replaced :p.

Check , clean and tighten the W plug connection on the back of the Alternator, this feeds the tacho. If it's dirty , corroded or loose you'll get these symptoms.

Gday mate had the same problem and all it was was the wire on the back of the alternator with the spade plug just put a new plug on it and that it!

Thanks for the tips guys!! :BigThumb:
You need:
8mm socket, small round crimp terminal and crimping tool and literally 2 mins and the problem goes away, fixed my issue before I left for work :)
