ok.... all you freelander owners, this might be your only chance to prove that your vehicle is an alright thing..... :)

go and buy Matthew Reilly's lastest book The Six Sacred Stones.. (if you havent read his other books go and buy all of them your local friendly Dymocks or ABC books store will gladely order all of them in and turn to page 291 (in the hardcover version) and carrying onto page 292 it reads and I quote....

No sooner had the zodiac slid to a halt on the decrepit boat-ramp than a second parachute-equipped pallet from the Halicarnassus landed lightly on the desert floor a few hundred yards in front of them. Sitting on the pallet was a compact Land Rover Freelander four-wheel drive---dontated to the halicarnassus by the British at Mortimer Island---stripped and modified for military work.

See the military use them... I read it in a book.. an honest to goodness made out of dead trees book... It must be true.....

IT does mention later in the book that

They took with them Wizards laptop computer, a multi requency radio scanner, some jerry cans filled with petrol and a couple of glocks.

so we can assume it had a petrol engine which (aside from generically it being a freelander) in turn helps explain this passage even later on in the book.

Zoe pursed her lips, then said:`You take the kids and wait by the back door. Get ready to make a run for that technical.'
`The technical?'
`Yes.' Zoe stood, her eyes fixed and focused. `We need a new car anyway.'

Or should I have posted that in another section.........
