Are there any 120amp alternators available that will bolt straight into an old 3.5 vee belt setup?
The existing 65amp lucas obviousely cant cope with winching and extra lights...my batterys are copping a hiding...

The biggest reasonably priced that I know of is a Bosch 85amp from a Magna, at about $200. I am assuming late 3.5 with LH alternator. R Handed big amps are more rare as they mainly came from old Falcons, like XB.
Once you get bigger AFAIK, the cost goes up a lot.
Also 120 amp would be a big ask for a single v belt. GQ Patrols have AFAIR a 120 amp but use 2v belts to drive it, and they are still always noisy.
So instead of a big alternator maybe get HIDs or do what I have and fit 2 85 amp Boschs.

Just a caveat. No alternator is a direct fit to the original LH position. You have to do a few mods, eg lengthen the adjuster, grind the alternator body a bit to get enough "swing" to use the original belt, and fool around with the terminals and pulley. You also have to have an electrician add a field wire for the tacho, unless you can DIY.
Do a seach. I described this in full a couple of years ago.

Sorry, I didn't answer the second part.
I have 2 batteries and run the two alternators completely separately.
You need to fit an exciter bulb and relay. This means you have completely separate (quick) charging of the second battery. You can also balance your load by say running the driving lights from the second alternator.

My setup is the older one with the alternator on the drivers side so doing a twin setup looks hopeless.
Maybe 85amps alone would be sufficient, winching is the main issue. I might visit my auto electrician and see what he thinks.

I fitted an 85 amp alt from a v6 dunny dore swaped the pulley from the original rangie alt to the dunnydore one wich was a straight swap which amased me works a treat and my lights work a hell of a lot beta now :D:D:D
