relace Headlight unit Defender

Hello everybody,

need some help; Never done it and i'm not a mechanic, so could anybody of you tell me step by step how to replace the whole headlight unit (right) on a Defender 1998 300Tdi.

Would be very greatful.

hmmmmm

undo the phillips head screws holding both the parking light and blinker to the guard

undo the two other phillips head screws holding the plastic panel to the guard

blinker and parking light have a back panel that unsrews so you can change the bulb, undo them then remove the wiring from plastic panel and reattach so you can get the plastic panel out of the way and stop the wiring from falling into the guard.

undo the 4 x stainless steel phillps head screws holding the headlight assembly to the guard they are at 2 o'clock 4 o'clock 8 o'clock and ten o'clock or thereabouts on mine. they are easy to drop and lose so make sure you keep them undo control when undoing

you can now pull the whole thing forward and with fingers firmly holding the bulb assembly into the housing rock the plastic fitting and pull backwards to remove it from the back of the bulb. you can now remove rubber boot and unclasp bulb assembly if needed. DO NOT touch the glass on the bulb as it will stuff it up, use a clean tissue that isn't impregnated with lanolin or some other moisturiser.

putting it back is the reverse of removing it..

If your replacing the lenseand reflector because the reflector has the chrome corosion have a look on ebay at the altezza inserts i went this way as the body is made from abs not steel which will stop the rust problems with water ingress also i found them quite an improvement :D:D:D:D

What Inc says, except 98 Defender will have one piece indicator and park lamp units, so juist unclip th wiring harness ad make sure it doesn't fall back into the guard.
