Just wondering if anyone has used Dobinson coils and/or shocks and how have you found them. I am waiting on replies to spring specifications but thought I'd ask you guys. I am after a replacement set for my Lovells which I will be refunded due to excessive sagging. Vehicle is a V8 D1.

Had the Dobinson coils in the back of my '88 Paj - very good they were too - they didn't make shocks to suit so can't comment on those. A mate very happy with the combo in his GU...but would stick to King's and Koni's for a Disco...

I've had a set of Dobs on my D1 for the past three years and can't say enough about them...very happy with the performance.
I have excess 150kg up front and 250kg at the rear...despite all of the heavy gear I carry there are no signs of sagging yet...& I drive hard and fast when off road!
My truck is 450 kg over weight...but still the car handles well considering.

Dobinson make their own springs and out source their shocks. Glen is very helpfull and can configure a spring rating to your specific requirements.

I rate there products highly.

Thanks for the info guys. As said, I am still waiting on some specification info, but will hold them in good stead if the specs are agreeable.

I went with dobinsons springs and shocks. All good so far, very little body roll.

The shocks were a lot bigger than what I previously had.

Cost under $800 for the lot. A set of konis cost more than that.

Lol! True, but I loved them in my D1 so was gonna stick with what I knew worked (for me, anyhow) :)

I have Dobinson springs under my disco and very happy with them, with Bilstein shocks although the Bilsteins are a bit mushy in the rear. Have heard good reports on the Dobinson shocks and correct me if I am wrong but I seem to recall someone telling me they are rebadged DeCarbons???? But I don't know whether this is the case or not, does anyone know????. But you should definately be happy with the quality of the springs

Koni's cost more than that because they are the best shock you can buy for an LR.I have had almost all of them and koni's are my first choice. Pat

Have found out lengths of springs and the fronts are a bit short for what I want, and also probably a bit stiff. The only rears that will suit are the linear for the rangie at 238psi (a bit too soft) and one of their progressive rates with 200-475psi. I currently have linear lovells with 270psi in the rear and am happy with this rate - coupled with the polyairs for when loaded. I am thinking that these will be too stiff for my liking. Does anyone who knows more about spring rates have any opinions on this? I had Kings in my RRC, with possibly a little more weight in the rear, that were progressive 330-440psi, and these still flexed but only if the full weight was on them. Eg. Didn't flex as well sometimes when on slopes.

Streaky, are you running off the shelf springs on your Disco, or are they customs? If they aren't customs, what are the part numbers? Are you happy with the way it flexes? The rear springs I am looking at are c51-027v with a progressive spring rate of 200-470psi. These are recommended as a +220kg spring. Currently I estimate that I have around 160-180kg constant rear load, but by the time I'm finished I can add about 150kg more. If I order these springs I just want to make sure that the rear is still going to flex when off road.

I went Dobinson 280 rear 220 in the front and linears other then stuffing the hight and not knowing what diameter steel they used there ok

the next ones for the rears are going to be 260 instead of the 280 a little softer for arc, great blokes to deal with and would deal with them again if needed :)
