Got bit the same the other day, tore the **** out of a pair of jeans. It was just after the last door-latch-bite thread. I hadn't been caught in a couple of years.

Muahahahaaaaa.... it's a sad truth for those that know what you're talking about :p

I need some more practice... went through 3 pairs in my first month of ownership :( but never in my S3 so guess different mechanism.

So has anyone come up with any solutions to this little problem?

Two options

Unbolt the doors and hacksaw off the mechanism

or

Gyrate your pelvis upon entering and exiting the car. And considering the lack of insulation in Defenders this option could honestly be used in conjunction with the phrase " Yeah Baby, I'm hot" with such a display of masculinity surely the only time your pants will get ripped in the future are from rampant females.

I did have an idea, haven't yet got around to making it up.

A piece of flexible plastic - thinnish - that surrounds the catch, attached under the catch, with a hole cut in it for the striker.

So, when you rub against it on the way in your belt loops gently slide over, but the force of the striker is enough to swing the plastic out of the way.

OR

Dance lessons.

roll out of the deefer... heres how I get out...

swing your right leg out, twist and follow with the left then as your right foot touches the ground turn step and face towards the rear of the vehicle with the left foot and your ass will naturally move away from the B pillar.

Took me years of tearing the longer belt loops off of DPCU's to work it out...

it works better with a side step but if your shorter than me you can use the lip of the seat box and if your on the passangers side, reverse the legs.

getting outs not my problem... it's the getting in and catching my pocket on the catch :(

Maybe i should stop wearing my wallet in the right pocket... maybe that' help ;)

Right, sorry, my bad that problems easy fixed...

for the drivers side.

open door.
wind down the window
close the door.
jump up and step on the window sill
lean over the roof and then drop your left leg down and step on the seat
kick your right leg down towards the gap between the door, the seat and the steering wheel, at the same time bend your left leg at the knee, rotate your body to the right, lower your right arm down, check your movement by draging your left arm along the roof.
with that movement started rotate your hips as you kick your left leg off the seat and into the space between the handbrake, steering wheel and seat, put your right hand on the bulge of the door whip your left arm out in towards your body and then across into the cab and then push off with the right hand as your ass starts to move into the seat. tuck your head in as you go.

If you get it just right you should now be able to reach down with the right hand and grab the seat belt as you key the engine to life and then slide it into gear as you put your right hand onto the steering wheel and drive it out of the carpark.

Dont forget to wave to uncle Jesse.

My defender started biting the other day. Can't say it has happened before but it must be the new wallet in rear pocket. Now I know that owning a defender means that thew wallet is usually empty, but it grabbed me yesterday as I was attempting to get in. So much so that I was hung up and couldn't release the strides. I was almost contemplating kicking them off whilst balanced on the step but as I was in a shopping centre carpark, sanity took over. After much pulling and twisting I finally freed my strides.
