Hi all,

I am looking at putting a rear wheel carrier on my 07 fender. I would appreciate any opinions/views on the various brands for sale. Do any of them allow you to lock the wheel in the open position?

thanks

its for a post 2003 or something like that, not 07 specific but i believe alot of them getting fitted are td5 ones so brought it to give it a go cant see why it wouldn't fit

I just had the opposite lock one fitted. I wish I could get some pics for you but maybe the boys at parramatta landrover will take them for you instead seeing they see more of my Defender then I....can you tell I'm sour??? hahaha.

No, but when I get it back I'll get some pics.

Hi Kevin,

I obtained my wheel carrier from WA - phone 08 93621744 - they freighted it to the front door - I think it was around $650 all up (might be $695:angel:)

However, if you wish to have a look at it give me a call.
But make sure you bring the Defender - I want to have a good look at that overhead console of yours.:D

Ritter sell Bearmach and Scorpion Racing, Bearmach was cheaper and apart from the Hi-Lift jack mount, looked the same. Takes no time to install and makes a big difference to the door. Well it did on a 300Tdi Defender, so I'm assuming the 07 won't be any different.

From memory the differences between a 300Tdi Carrier and a Td5 unit are to do with the door hinges.

I paid $500 for mine. Mind you I also bought some other stuff at the time.

make sure you get the correct model bearmach as there is three, unfortunatly we got the wrong one and i did not realise untill i had drilled the holes in the new defender. luckily it fitted ok despite what the web site said. so we have ended up with the none greesable model and its mounts more inboard than the newer model.

We put the Scorpion Racing one on our Defender, bought through Rovacraft, complete with Hi Lift mount. Fits well (fitted myself) and have no issues with it. Also all joints are greaseable. Opens with the door.

I have a Kaymar, and it is very solid but doesn't open with the door. People forget to open the carrier first and there are scratches and a dent from trying to open the door first. Putting the pin in to lock it open can be a pain when your hands are full too.

we have a pivot carrier on our 90 that locks open but that is a spring loaded catch so you swing it open, it gets to the notch the catch springs down and to shut lift the leaver and pull the carrier around until it the catch locks in its start position.......

but yes had a few people battling with the door and then ask why it wont open after they have reefed the bee jesus out of it:o
