Isn't that a 300tdi? I thought the 300's only had the yellow oil cap, mind you it's only a cap.

In the Disco the 200 Tdi has a green dipstick and a yellow 710 cap.
the 300Tdi has them both yellow.

Have you looked at 4cyl toyota deisel eng.
I fitted a 2H 4cyl toyota deisel eng, gear box and diff's to the last landy I had before the one I am working on now.
I had to cut out eng mounts and gear box mount X member and manifacture my own mounts.
On the diff's I had to cut of the spring mounting block and move them in to fit the narrower landy chassis.:)

I always thought the toymotor 2H was a 6 cyl, the 4s being the B and 3B.
We have a s3 with Perkins 4182 motor. Was originally a 6cyl. We have the original conversion receipt. It was fitted by U.K. Motors Pty.Limited, 123 Campbell St, Bowen Hills. Brisbane. Date was August '86. Cost $3575.
Probably long out of business now, but just one of the conversions available at the time.
cheers

Have a look at this site, it deals with various conversions including 200tdi into a series, problem is it is a yank site so some of the info may not be relevant

TeriAnn's Expedition Land Rover site (http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/index.html)

This site gives details of a conversion which I thought sounded quite nice for a series Landrover, and as previously mentioned, 200tdi available at the moment.

"200Di" diesel conversion for Series Land Rovers - by Glencoyne Engineering (http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/200di2.htm)

At the moment i would be happy with just getting mine running.:(

Perhaps one day when I spot a nice series station wagon which is really cheap because the engine stopped and the owner just left it in the shed ...

Cheers

Give me a couple more weeks and I'll have the gearbox to transfer case sorted, then I can tell you how to set up a Daihatsu 2.8 and 5 speed overdrive box from a Delta series truck, to power an S3 Landy.
With luck I should not even have to play with engine or gearbox mounts.

a Series III 2.25l diesel

Not daft at all. Nice engines. Love the old 2.25D.
As it was a 6 cyl I am assuming it is a 109 so the LR2.2.5D may be a little underpowered... but then again... with extractors (need to let these oiler breathe) and injector pump tweaks should go well.

Who would I determine which engine is a Series3 diesel from any other 2.25ltr. Are there specific engine numbers to look for??

Rodeo 2.8l turbo intercooled, the last of the non electronic ones.Good strong engines, mates rodeo has 350000ks on it still going strong, get the gearbox/transfercase then everything matches, tailshafts and handbreak to sort.
Avoid mitsi 4D56/4D55 (triton/pajero) they are hand grenades.
That 2.8 diahatsu is actually a toyota under licence.
Hilux diesels up to 2.8 are reasonable.
Nissan 3.3 diesel with the turbo was pretty strong.
Landcruiser 6cyl diesels are real gutless.
