49 and 50 model

Hi, Sorry for starting new thread. I have 2 series 1's, 49 and a 50 80". The 49 is the narrow spring model. Sadly some years ago it got bastardised with a gmh donk Doge master cylinder and pulled off old head lamps (Gone). The rest or it is still original, just knocked about as still is driven today. Are they worth Restoring? The egine transplant is puting me off.
The 1950 is all original including PTO and Govenor. I have mothballed it into a dark shead about 10years ago to preserve it. I seem to think the 49 would be more rewarding to bring back to former glory. What do you think.

Yes there are some S1's that are way past restoration, but very few that can't donate parts for others restorations.

There were only 5,000 1949 models made so are more rare than 1950 models where there were 15,000 made although that said the last of the 1948, the 1949 and the first few thousand of the 1950 model were all made in 1949 and are essentially the same.

An original 1950 with PTO and Governor, even a wide spring model, is still very worthy of restoration.

Depending on the style of the conversion of the 1949, it is still possible to retrofit an original engine or even restore it as is. Although there are some purists who vehemently disagree with me. My rules would be that the conversion must have been done during it's working life which would mean either a grey Holden engine or a red engine no later than a 186, which I know is a bit arbitrary but hey - it's my opinion.

Would you beleive I have no recent pics of these two. I'll try to find some or Take a few. The 50 has 10 years of dust and junk on it! But may as well see it as it stands!. The 49 is still accessable. Parked in shead waiting for new rear brake pipe. Torn off by someones left over fence wire:wasntme:
I must say even though it is still in use, it may be to far gone for full resoration. Has a 173 Holden Red motor. Front X member removed and a bodgey one put foward. Also Radiator moved foward so Head lamps were Removed And suport is cut back. These may be hard to find. The gear box has also been moved Back a bit. Bulk head is in good nick other than a plate near stearing box. The body is way beyond it. Has a lot splits on joins and a few tears.
The old instruments have all been smashed. She looks OK from a distance but not so good up close.
The 50 model has heaps of dents but is in better shape. I wish it was other way around.

I'm working on it, Have no digital images of these two. Could scan other photoes but not current enough.
Thats some bling on the GMH! That carby wont work well off road:(.
Seen a 107 with a 3ltr rover 6 a wile back (Rover car engine) I looked and went well. There is a 107 in a padock near here but I have all I can cope with now!:eek:

Thats just the engine 'red' from the local Bunnings. Dont worry about the carby working too well of road - this thing wont be going too far out of the drive way at all. The S2a is for that. This one is just for something to do until I find a more original one to do up. :D

This bit is a bit of a mess. See that hose, goes to a VH44 inline brake boaster. Locks up on tar no wories. That horible fuel pump.:eek:

Here are some pics of my 50 model. This one is in all original working condition. Has PTO and govenor. Both the 49 & 50 were purchased here new!
