I want to mount some bigger speakers in my Defender, some that don't point at my knees. Do front door mounted speakers get in the way or damaged by boots or are they out of the way?

Can I mount them on the roof without a roof console?

You can do a front door build - only prob is you dont want to take too much off the foot room in the Defender - there aint much in the first place.

A good set of reference quality 4" spits should do a good job in the front end - you only want mid and treble for the imaging up there anyway and a set of 2 ways in the rear for rear fill. After that then you need to look for some base if thats your thing.

Have a look at Jaycar for some decent 4" speakers at a good price.

These are brilliant speakers ...rare offering of a 5" marine rated high quality speaker. I don't know about defender door detail but they will fit in a Discovery 4" door mount. Around $120 / pair
