Ummm, i think Im missing some important info...
95 fender with R380 - 180,000km unknown gbox history for most of this.
Hydraulic clutch problems with a slow leak in both master and slave so I removed the lot and bought new replacements. Despite the manual and everyones warnings of "do not remove pushrod from gbox housing" when I unbolted the slave the push rod slid out with no resistance at all.
The ball of the pushrod had a large glob of grease on it as did the cup on the clutch release lever. There was no evidence of a plastic retaining clip on release lever, ball or in the housing. I could feel a small slot in the release lever which I presume these clips attach too?
Was a little worried due to previous posts saying how the push rod will fall out without the retaining clip... but ever the optimist I put some moly on the pushrod and offered the new slave up to the housing. The ball felt to engage in the cup and just as the two bolts were seated there was a 10mm gap between slave and housing. On tightening the bolts it all mated up nicely. With the pushrod presumably taking up tension on the new slave spring.
So whats going on, i could find no retaining clip on dissasembly, it seems to bolt up okay, once the pedal is depressed I can only assume that clutch pressure will keep the pushrod in the cup???? Is it possible someone modded my release lever to not need a clip (dont know how) will grease and slave spring pressure be sufficient?
I havent put the pedal box back in yet so cant do a test but that will be the next step unless someone can shed light???
Oh yeah, had no gear change problems, no clutch slip, no drag or shudder, just a fluid leak so I can only presume the pushrod was happy before I pulled it out?
