Will XP SP3 auto update ?

I just ran an update and there was no sign of it.

I run updates on various computers on an almost daily basis and although by rights SP3 should auto update, at least I think it should?

It doesn't. You will need to download it.

According to what I received from ZDNet today, there is a lot more interest in a new system called "Windows 7" than any update or service pack for Vista.

But as soon as the production SP3 for XP comes out I'm installing it.

the typical microshaft blurb... they said that after sp1 for xp... it is their usual talk up the next one marketing hype.

dont know what the drama is with vista, other than the people that use it... ;)

a neighbour/mate is a video/doco maker/editor and he reckons that the copywrite protection crap in Vista as miles too onerous for him to use. He says it won't even let him edit his own videos

Welcome back mate.:D:D

A Microshaft error code 18?:(

And, SP3 for XP, is still only a beta release candidate not yet a proper job.

And the ZDNet guru's are still talking about Windows7.

I expect they will be "talking" about it for some time.

Vista was released last year and only really fully mainstream now.
MS aren't going to be wasting all that money on D, (notice I didn't say R&D ;)) just to release a new OS in two years and even if they wanted to it will never be on time.

I would guess at 2011-2012

XP was released around 2001, (or thereabouts) it's now 2008 and Vista is only just a fledgling without even it's first proper SP.
Naa they'll want to rake in a bit more cash first.

IMO, FWIW stick to XP until at least the first Vista SP you'll be safe from a new OS for some years yet.
