Barbecuing can be such exhausting work. Surely there's an easier way. A group of Iranian inventors looked at how we cook and how we drive and how we dump so much heat out the back of our cars. Putting them all together, they came up with the Exhaust Burger concept.

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/finalex_opt.jpg (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/exhaust-burger-concept/605301/)Before you start complaining about the taste of carbon monoxide and the cancer risks of automotive air pollution, look closely at the design. The exhaust merely heats the upper element of the device, cooking your burger much like a Foreman Grill.

Of course, unlike the Foreman, there's nowhere for the grease to go, no easy way to check on the status of your food, and the Exhaust Burger only cooks one patty at a time. Oh, and the EB is still only a concept that was entered into Designboom's competition.

We'd sure like to try it out, though, especially if fitted to the back of a bio-diesel running on used grease from McDonald's. Instead of asthma-inducing fumes, we'd be spewing the hunger-inspiring smells of french fries and hamburgers. Yum. Thanks for the tip, Mike!

Very old concept, actually :)

Back in the 40's, some bright spark cam up with the idea of a "Car Roaster".

It was a largish tin box with top lid and a couple of trays inside. The idea was to put a leg of lamb in it, then vegies on top, shut the lid and hang it from the exhaust manifold.
"think old Chev six's, Chrysler side valve six,s, etc"

As the majority of the roads at the time were poor, vehicle movement was slow and it would take one to two hours to get to your favorite picnic destination.

When you arrived, lunch was cooked and all you needed to do was light a fire and make the gravy.

I don't know who invented them and exactly where they we used. My Father told me the story, as his family and friends used them in South Australia.

It appears people are still doing similar things :)
