pulled the rear axle and springs out the other day, and tonight I stripped one of the springs off and pulled the leaves apart, de rusted with wire brush and emery paper and cleaned it up.

What pain if any did they originally had. Was just going to give it a paint with Chassis Black since i have heaps of it. Axle housing and springs.

Any thoughts?

p.s. Should have the gearbox mounts tomorrow for the third attempt at installing the engine.

with my springs i pulled them apart and cleaned them the same way you did . put them back together and have left them unpainted . will brush some diesel on them so they work in between the leafs . The paint would only stay on for a short time as the leafs flex and crack the paint anyways . I also painted the housings in the chassis paint and they come up fine :)

G'day srowlandson :)

When I refurbushed my springs on the 2a in 91, I split them, wire brushed, then lightly cleaned any rust off them with an Angle Grinder, champhered the top of the leaf ends, 1/16 @45* and radioused the corners 1/8 inch, they were then painted with Chassis Black, starting to look a little tired now in 08 and will soon get new rubber bushes and clean & repaint, BTW this is my daily driver:)

cheers

Make sure you lubricate them when they go together, either with grease, or dry lubricant and do what Ho did to his,
