take a look at this video clip of how east german cars were put together and then ask how were the poms any different with LR or how the Indians will be when they finally take over LR :D;);)

At least they adjusted the door and then tried it for leaks. I'm sure LR never checked the Disco for leaks.

many years ago while building the automotive assembly plant in Thailand for merc, we watched a car go down the line, at the end the lifter picked it up and out fell motor and g/box.

Aligning doors with blocks of wood, steel levers, hammers, etc is normal practice on assembly lines. Many of the odd tools are nutted out and made by the assemblers. The guys get pretty good at aligning panels in the restricted time available at their line station. Frightened hell out of me the first time I saw a door being slammed onto a block of wood at GM-H Pagewood, or a block of wood jammed in one end of the boot lid and a great steel lever applied to the other. P76 fit-up was so bad in many cases that nothing would help. Some of the rejects we got as company cars, you could insert all fingers into the gaps.

we dont even got that at work...
I generally use a steel reinforced leatherbound rubberised size 11 terra boot.

Looks like there where prettty effcient at it....:) If that was the LR factory the guy doing the leak testing would need scuba gear.:angel:
When the first guy with the mullet was mucking around i saw the big shiny chrome pipe i thought it was going to be a video featuring some exotic over the top turbo charged euro buggy...sadly it wasnt.....:(

yes the water test was excellent and yes they did check the alignment as well .... bet their roof lining never sags either...

They look like the little Trebants, a pile of crap if there ever was one, you have to remember up until recently cars in Russia and Communist parts of Europe were prohibitively expensive and of bad quality and you had to wait years and years to get one and have four wheel barrow fulls of money.
India still builds the Morris major as a new car and a few other relics long forgotten here, India is getting its act together though, last few years they have come along way with quality, still very behind the times but manufacturing wise they are getting so much better, Still I wouldnt touch a Landrover made there, I just dont think they have the know how to build such a complex machine and a milestone of modern engineering, its such a shame big buisness is so money orientated these days, its all about quantity and who can supply the cheapest parts and getting maximum dollar at same time and killing you forever with spare parts.
Surely a Landrover without leaks is not a Landrover?

India makes & exports machine tools, electric locomotives, diesel engines. Also make their own supersonic aircraft, nuclear reactors, nuclear weapons. How complex is a Land Rover in comparison? Like comparing a longbow to a Vulcan rotary cannon.

Ha Ha, I'm sure Land Rover have done the same leak test over the years, it's just that some boofhead probably forgot to turn the water on. lol :D

I'll have to get one of those special hammers, then I can replace all those torx, sae, metric, whitworth tools I need for my Land Rover.:D

I just pulled my door seal down slighty to fix the gap. Maybe some tools like in the video would have been the correct method.:eek

Indians have been making land rovers for years :D:D:D

Excellent point! At the moment Indians make land-rovers with BRITISH quality control.
Things can only improve under the new management :Rolling:

"The Trabant was a steel monocoque design with roof, bootlid, bonnet, fenders and doors in Duroplast, a form of plastic containing resin strengthened by wool or cotton.
The duroplast was made of recycled material, cotton waste from Russia and phenol resins from the East German dye industry making the Trabant the first car with a body made of recycled material."
Now you can see why they were er.. adjusting the panels.
