Blue Mountains Line - Major delays

Posted 06/02/2008 06:52PM
CityRail advises that trains have been suspended on the Blue Mountains Line between Penrith and Lithgow in both directions due to a truck on the line at Blackheath and lightning strikes at Lawson damaging signal equipment. Major delays can be expected.

A limited number of buses are now operating between Penrith and Lithgow, however if possible CityRail is advising passengers to call friends and family to pick them up at Penrith / Emu Plains.

CityRail recommends train travellers delay their journey or make alternative arrangements. Customers are advised to call the Transport Infoline on 131500 for the latest recorded updates before going to their station.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Does that mean I no longer need to pick up the 130 Dobbo?

I can assure it wasn't quiet last night (I was on 11pm-7am shift). Every train had to be authorised to pass each of the signals at stop between Valley Heights and Bullaburra. That means he had to stop at every signal and call me for authority . We had no phones, no train radio, mot drivers dodn't have UHF radio and those that did only had handhelds that have limited range. I was using my mobile to talk to drivers (who are not issued with mobile phones so they were using their own phones as well).

The only trains suspened were a couple fo freight trains as they couldn't get thorugh before the peak started plus the XPT to Dubbo (which didn't make it to Sydney last night, plus one train that goes to Springwood and returns to Hornsby this morning.

I had Network Operations Superintendents, the Regional Operations Manager, a Signaller's assist, with me in the Box plus traffic officers on signals, etc. It was busy.

I am tired! I didn't even have time to go for a leak during the whole shift. I didn't get to the toilet until I got home from work. True!

Time for a coffee then off to bed.

Heck, my mobile just rang - the guard off W525 just called. Penrith Box are still giving out my mobile and I knocked off over an hour ago,

Lucky I drove to Sydney yesterday. I saw heaps of trains just sitting on the tracks going no where.
