Shhhh - don't tell the boys on the Fender list - but today I took Grover back to Austral to get some panel work done under warranty - and they gave me a brand new F2!
Well - no misaligned panels on this baby. And a really nice vehicle, I just wanted to say. When my wife gets home I reckon I'll be writing Austral a cheque for this one!
Here are some pics...
Isn't it pretty?

Well - last time I took my Fender in they had promised me a RR Sport - but gave me a Mazda ute! :D Guess it's luck of the draw. This one is a SE TD4 - very nice motor. ;)
Kat is pretty keen to hold onto it - she can't really drive the Fender yet.

Had one for the 4WD Spectacular last weekend, as a 'soft roader'. Put 3 local dealer reps in it, with an experienced Land Rover owner as driver, and it did the 'rough' test track with only 1 scrape (belly on the stones). Note that the test track had been softened to accommodate the Toyota 200 series, as the dealer was psyco about it touching anything! Our experience ... this little Freelander is a real 4wd!

It's OK scallops, I'm a freelander driver & was waved to by a defender driver the other day. The freelander is finally being accepted as a real landrover!!

Well, I have on loan a freelander 2 and am not impressed with economy. It is chewing just as much possibly more then the defender. It is of course the diesel Freelander. I sat on 85 kmph for probably 50 kilometers and got 9.5 litres per 100 according to the trip comp, that's pretty poor for what it is advertised as.
It has some power though and is a pretty damn nice drive but I would not buy one. I think they state it does 6.5 litres to the 100 kilometers? what trash that is. The peugoet I got did around the 6 mark and that was great.
It made me wonder though how much juice the tdv6 and v8 uses in the disco and rangie.

They quote 8.5 combined 6.8 highway. What you saw is normal. I get 6.7 100% highway driving and 10.2 100% city driving. Your defender does not have 400Nm as does the FL2 so the difference is probably down to weight.

I have a 300Tdi and those that claim they get under 10L/100kms are full of it too. My FL1 and 300Tdi Disco both use around 10-12L/100kms.
It comes down to how you drive, an engine with potential will suck it down when you stomp it, whereas i cant get my gutless FL over 15L/100kms, even in thick sand.
Ive seen DJHampsons consumption and its pretty good. What do you actually use Davo?
I get 450kms from a 50L fill, almost exactly.
Cheers!

Xavie,
How many K's on the FL2?
They do tend to loosen up after 5000-6000 km's.
Have seen many with 8-8.5L/100ks.
When they are young they do chew some juice but bed in quite well & become very quickly.
p.s. my old mans 300Tdi consitantly gets 8.5-9L/100ks it is a manual & this will be the difference.
My 300Tdi Auto would continually get regardless of condition 11-11.5L/100ks
My 200Tdi Manual was awesome i would get almost evry fill 8-8.5L/100ks,
This is a mix of highway & stop/start traffic.
My Td5 gets 11.5-12L/100ks which includes its 32's
