Nice.
But I prefered the old jets too, not these rubberband trainers. A lot more impact with the jets at shows.

Rubberband trainers?
They are jets, they just use the jet engine to run a gearbox which turns the prop.
There is talk of replacing the PC-9 with PC-21s. Similar, but heaps gruntier with a smaller wingspan and full glass cockpit.
Still was cool to watch them come in. They left this morning at 9 am heading north.

the Italian-designed Aermacchi MB 326H, commonly known as the Macchi.
And did you know the name of the RAAF's previous aerobatic display team ?
The Telstars ! How ignoble !!!!
Before that the "Red Sales" flew Vampire jets. Cool.

BigJon there is no doubt that the PC-9 is a good aircraft. No doubt at all. I just have a soft spot for the Macchis, for some reason. Perhaps because they are what I saw when I was a kid.
And for those interested:

I know what you mean, those Macchis do look good.
My other soft spot for the PC-9 is because I fly one myself (about 60 inch wingspan, semi scale sports model. Done in the Roulettes colours).

Go on - you know you want to !
You should talk to Captain_Rightfoot he's another R/C plane junkie !

Hi BigJon,
They still look good doing the flyover and acrobatics over Anzac hill on Anzac day a couple of times in the 8 years I was in the Alice.
As an X-RAAFie also I saw the Phantoms which were loaned to the RAAF before delivery of the F111'S do an air show. They are amazing as they have enough thrust to basically sit on their bum and go vertical.
The Galaxy's on the strip in Alice also look amazing. ;)

Very nice images beautiful machines.
Is one model of the Pilatus that is used by the Flying Doctors ?
I just wonder if Pilatus makes executive Jets ?

The Pilatus that the RFDS use are PC-12 's they are significantly larger. they too are a great aircraft, and have a good safety record. :)
I don't believe Pilatus have any biz jets in production

John,
no doubt they are a good trainer and a good plane and are great to see close up, but lose that attraction after a couple of times. The Macchis had impact and that was all I was saying.
Most people see small prop driven planes frequently, but jets at low level and close up leave a memory. I thought they were turbo prop not jet, but I dont know much about them.
Cheers

I fly the PC12 with RFDS, 1200hp close enough to 500kmh. Pilatus dont make jets, they specialise in single engine turbo props and do an excellent job at it.
Our latest machine arrived from Switzerland 2 weeks ago. I'll upload some pics shortly.

This our latest addition to the fleet in Alice.
Seen here enroute from Switzerland to Oz at Samedan Airport.
It will not likely ever see snow again !!

I posted the Pilatus link in my earlier post - have a look and you'll see what aircraft they make.
No jets but as Strangy says - do one thing and do it well !

Nice,
Hopefully we wil never see one first hand at the Ravy/Hopetoun airport. If I have to send someone out this way it wil be fairly serious. Having said that we are having a heli pad built at site as a precaution.

They advertise their prop planes every month in Outback. I read somewhere that if the engine fails they can glide an incredible number of kilometers. Over 200 i think.
I am a Macchi fan mainly becasue they were around when i was a kid, but also because there is something about a jet.
Thanks for the F4 Phantom photo, along with the P4? Mustang one of the best looking planes ever made.
What are the best looking planes ever made? My list would include, the Supermarine Schneider Trophy plane, Sopwith Camel, the Mustang, and the Phantom. i've grown very fond of the F1-11 too.

Would have to say that some of the MIG's look pretty tough ;)

Not 200ks. Usually twice the altitude in NM i.e
30,000ft altitude = approximately 60nm glide range = 106kms
Favourite piston would be the Spitfire and jet would have to be Mig. 29
