View Full Version : UK Hiclone Debate

Obviously we don't care as much as the Brits about whether Hiclones work.
This thread on a UK LR site is up to 501 posts.
Hiclone: Do these really work? - Page 34 - Land Rover UK Forums (http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php't=103095&page=34)
Some of it might make interesting reading if you have an hour or two to spare.
I think I might wait until they bring out the movie version or until there is some sign of some of the independent test results they're promising.

I notice that they are sarcastic...
perhaps like cricket its another english trait exported and perfected down here.
I really like the posts from Dfenda on the site who has them fitted to the td5....
oh wait... dont they have something in them that might just stir the air up a bit... that'd be a turbo wouldnt it...
heres something worth ponderin, if you fit one to a turbo charged engine and the flow of the "swirly" air from the hiclone is going in the opposite direction to the rotation of the compressor wheel in the turbo wouldnt it slow the turbo charger down thus lowering the overall boost? wonder if they make left and right handed ones.. is the corilis effect of the air swirling into the inlet tract from the filter box cumulative or does this detract from the preformance of the hiclone.
given that south of the equator the corilis effect swirls the air against the rotation of the turbo can i buy reversed turbo wheels and a reverse hiclone to match the flow of the air through the turbo to that of the air turning out of the hiclone and line that up with the corilis rotation or can i just flip the turbocharger and the hiclone?
given that the ECU of a td5 should be tweaked to suit the inlet and exhaust modifications you apply is there anyone who has the set of programs for both left and right spin hiclones with both left and right spin turbos.
since the inlet and exhaust of an engine are essentially closed bottles to each other shouldnt I get an increase in preformance if I fit hiclones to the exhaust as well? I mean the exhaust is basically there to empty the engine in the same way that you empty a bottle by turning it upside down. If you twirl the contents of a round bottle (notice the exhaust is round like a bottle) doesnt it empty out faster? wouldnt twirling the exhaust have the same effect.....
hey if twirling the air makes it work better why dont we twirl the fuel as well.. little hiclones that we can install in the fuel lines and sedimentors to make it twirl down the fuel lines faster so that the fuel system can keep up with the extra power requirements of the engine.
The real preformance addicts could probabley even fit them to the injector nozzles to make the spray pattern even more divers inside the combustion chamber.

aww.....cmon dude........
dont make fun of the hiclones......just becasue you havent tried them......
how would you know if they work or not......
ive got a set fitted to my washer jets.......they work that well.......that i can clean all the side windows as well......from the swirling action.......
the trick is you need to fit the left one backwards.....otherwise it will swirl to the right.........

Does that classify them as sprinkler systems? Therefore can you only use them during certain hours of the day?

Not much use in WA then. We are only allowed to use sprinklers two days a week - the days you are allocated are determined by the last digit in your street address.
I can wash my windows on Sundays and Thursdays.

Don't laugh, I have seen one fitted in the extreme end of a Defender TD5 tailpipe :eek:. From memory the vehicle was from WA and belonged to an aftermarket accessory shop...

My disco has been able to wash the side windows (drivers only) ever since I hit a roo and it snapped the head light washer off..... also great for squirting pedestrians... It is amazing how far that one goes!

My Rangie has headlight washers (correctly adjusted) and the sheer volume of water they eject is astounding. If you are about a metre in front of the car and they operate you will get wet from the reflected water (obviously the car is stationary at the time...:p).

Let me have a looksee around here...
Can't help you, sorry. Every old bumper out the back has had both washers scavenged already. I thought I had one hiding on the shelf, but it must have been used as well.

I heard a beauty yesterday from the guy buying my range rover
Imagonna fit duel snorkels to it to create a cyclonic effect for the carbs.
(I so much wanted to slam the bonnet on his head a few times when he said it.)
WTF? who teaches these people these things? Can someone please explain to me his thinking? Fine duel snorkels will suck more air then one but how can air being sucked into duel carbs create a cyclonic vortex and a performance increase?
