Geez I hate it when people
merely change the country name in some SPAM email that has been passed around the US and now made it to Australia.
Just think about it - for the Oil Companies to lose $A4.6B in 1 day
every man woman and child in Australia would have to not buy $230.00 of fuel.
When was the last time you and everyone else in your family bought $230.00 fuel on the same day (everyday)?
Get over it - it is absolute codswollop!

Furthermore, for them to make an actual loss, wouldn't everyone have to actually steal the petrol ?
Lost revenue is slightly different to a financial loss and in any case would most likely affect the site operators / franchisees more so than the oil company.
Oh ..... and if you don't pass this on to 50 people in the next 10 seconds your head will disappear up your own clacker !

True! How long could/would you hold out for?
Granted it's symbolic but we might as well boycott food shopping; the peasants will crack sooner rather than later!
Someone should take Krudd to task over the double dipping for starters...

If you really want to save on fuel, just drive less. Pretty obvious really. With the price of fuel (of any kind) these days, a push bike or decent pair of hiking boots looks like a very affordable alternative.

Haha...
They used to make Brisbane Bitter, it was always at least $5 a carton cheaper, (when an expensive carton was $25).
It was known as "Brisbane River" and tasted worse

"Geez I hate it when people merely change the country name in some SPAM email that has been passed around the US and now made it to Australia."
Can you be sure that it is spam?
Just reading this thread is a reflection of the saying:
Divide and concur.
What is being shown here is that we seem not to be able to collectively agree on any strategy that will gain the attention of those we want to expose or defeat.
Most of us pay 30% tax + on each dollar we earn So if you pay $1.35 for fuel it really cost you $1.76 and then there is the sales tax and excise tax you pay on your $1.35 petrol. So now think how much you really pay.
Why is it the US can have a much lower price?

Why is it the US can have a much lower price?
Economies of scale and import power
More Production and facilities
US based oil companies
Economic and political power
We make up about 2% of the global economy and are at the bottom of the world geographically.
PS Venezuela pay about 8c litre at the pump:eek:, but they hate the yanks
duncanw
15th February 2008, 12:29 PM
don't forget its got a lot to do with the amount of tax each government puts on the sale of petrol
the oil companies do a hell of a lot more work than a bottled water company but somehow a liter of bottled water costs more than petrol ;)

Absolutely it's SPAM.
It's an unsolicited junk email and worse than that it has been forwarded multiple times.
That makes it SPAM go and see Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spam)

Hey Cruiser, if you want your dollars to go somewhere good, Woolworths is giving 100% of all supermarket profits today to Country Women's Assoc. and Landcare.
And this one is real :)

It's not a coincidence, fuel companies do what is called "discounting" on monday-wed, in order to try and even out supply during the week. When I worked at a refinery, the companies were open about this. Refineries prefer to run constantly (constant output), it costs $$$ to start up and shut down plant, so the discounting is an effort to even out demand.
Bottom line - is if you want to save money - fill up on a monday or tuesday. OR - WALK/RIDE like DaveS said.
Btw - as others have said, the "no fuel day" is a crock of $hit and doesn't work.

Now what would have an effect would be if everyone walked to work, for a week or maybe a month. It may not change the oil companies pricing, but it would be healthy for the people walking.
