Well as many of you know, if you have been round long enough, know that I lost 2 shepherds last year. Benz-8yrs old, Good Friday-ie April. We then got a young pup which we called Diesel months later, whose mother was Benz'shalf sister. Sadly we lost Diesel at 9mths old at Xmas due to a snake bite and a tick finished him off. The tears have dried up, but we all miss him terribly as he was our combined families first dog.
I rang the breeder a couple of weeks later to be told that Diesels father was having a litter with a different mother....they were born on my daughter's birthday.....a sign maybe :). Yesterday they turned 6 weeks old so we went up to have a look at them, haven't chosen one yet, going to wait another week or so, but our new fella...who will be called "Maximus" or "Maxxy" for short will be one of them. There were some red eyes today :):

Yep, beautiful and awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww are some of the things that come to mind, 2 weeks is now seeming like a bloody long time. Was just great to see the kids so excited, as losing 2 of their best mates 9mths a part was a big hit. Plus he will get to grow up with our other new addition of the 2 legged kind who is expected to "drop" in early April. Cripes a puppy and a newborn...what was I thinking :D ( yeah yeah can just imagine the responses that may come from the group known as the SWMBO lot :p),

They are gorgeous Stevo, and I hope you have better luck this time. Great thing, a dog/mate in the family, but we wont be having another, at least not for quite a few years, as these days they are perceived as antisocial, and there are so few places one can take their pets when in the outdoors. As we will hopefully be doing a lot more travelling in the coming years, another dog will have to wait.

Gorgeous work Stevo... will never replace Benzy or Diesel but will be good to have a new puppy around to be part of the family.

Well today I start fencing off part of the yard so that I only have to puppy proof a small part until he is big enough and cant go through the dog fencing into the back paddock. Also some more clearing to do done so no hidey spots for snakes or the like, and then wait impatiently till we can pick him up. :D. Like Sharlea said yesterday that its not hard to see who it the most excited :),

G'day Stevo68 :)
Nice looking litter that lot:) just pick the one that comes to you by it's self, as it has picked you;) Mum looks like a nice type as well, we have at the moment a 11week old Border Collie pup, Male, Black and White, my old Chocolate dog's great, great, Grandson:) B & W carrying colour :) but having a 8-11 week old in the present wet weather is, er, Interesting :D:D:D

You've had some terrible luck, so I hope that you have a better run with Maxxy.
They sure are lookers when they are little! We have a Kelpie x Shepherd, but one day I'd love a pure breed Shepherd. Amazing dogs...

cheers Yeah they are bloody cute :D, was hard to walk away and not take one home that day, though they are only 6 wks old atm. Always had shepherds from a youngish child, love other types of dogs, but shepherds are my favourite :D. Not cheap the purebreds, but worth it in my book, the father who I will get pics of when we get Maxxy, is a German Import, strong, masculine dog, I just wish time would hurry up...getting impatient :),

TIM.... Yep no chances this time, have sprayed a 2 metre barrier on the otherside of the fence and another part overgrown is currently dying from spraying so all clear around. And I can tell ya, I even see a hint of a brownie in that perimeter, it will become fertiliser:twisted:,

Another " jungle trick " is to lay nylon mesh about 1.2 metre wide ( holes slightly smaller than chicken wire ) along the routes where they may travel , secure the edges but leave enough slack to allow the b******s to crawl under, they get part of the way through stick there heads up through the mesh and find they cant pull it back. Check regularly and as you find them you may then relocate them ??

Kermit Might have to look at that whilst he is a young pup. Overall I think it was more bad luck with my other shepherd. We are on an acre now, we were on 8 acres before and you only ever saw snakes...bar one...that was close to the house, more in the bush area's. The backyard that was fenced in was close to an acre and never saw snakes...bar a green tree snake up at the pool and that was I feel cause the dogs roamed that area, so on the whole the snakes took a wide berth. With Diesel the one that died from a snake bite, probably a case of curiousity killed the dog :(,
