At the last minute headed up to stockton with the family and some friends yesterday.

What a great day. I found the sand was the easiest to drive on ever. I realise it's because of all the rain of late not so much my improving driving ability. It was a breeze. So anyone here that needs a bit of experience on sand get onto the beach now and build your confidence.

On that note for those that drive Stockton regularly is it nearly always easier on the first line of tracks behind the dunes compared to the beach itself?

i drove lurch there on the australia day long weekend.......

i managed to get onto the sand and got half way to the water before lurch refused to go any further.......

he made me get out and drop my pressures down from 40psi to 22psi.......

it was the cold weather and the rain from the previous days that had compacted it all down to allow me to actually drive
in there with 40 psi.....i normally drop down to 12psi and just glide over everything......

i was with con (imposter)......we went fishing there.......

and caught nothing..........

Im a regular on stocko and to be honest 12 to 14 is the go up there. It always has something in stock for you.Dont be fooled by the harder sand after some rain because there will be some quick sand style areas.:DAnd besides why go up when there is only a couple of ya, we should have a meet up there.?????

Patto your right mate im a local stocko bloke and im up there all the time the beach will change overnight if the wind is right and the quick sand can be funny to watch DH's get stuck in :D:D:D:D

Need to organise another AULRO run on the beach soon before it gets too cold :cool:

ill be coming up on my own this time.......and camping on the beach.......

not only is it more fun.......but its also cheaper than our last trip there......

the decision to go onto the beach to fish was made late at night......it wasnt really planned......
it was dark when we got on the sand........and was almost getting light by the time we left......

I went to Stockton for the first time ever on Friday arvo.

Admittedly, it was on the ferry from across the other side of the harbour. :)

You know what I have never done that, been on the to do list for a while now.

I grew up about 5kms from Lavis lane and now i'm stuck in the middle of the city :( it drives me crazy seeing pics of the Tailor and flathead my old man sends me on his phone from the beach! What a mongrel! ;)

Stockton is my most favourite place ever, it has everything 4WD if you know where to look. If your within half a days drive and haven't been there yet, your as mad as a clowns c#ck!

Here's a tip on access - there are 2 entrances via Lavis lane; one is for normal 4WD's and the other is for the tour operators that have negotiated use of the area.

Your advised not to use the 2nd one but after using the first, you'll be thinking pretty hard about the rules here...

Also, to reinflate your tires, don't bother queing at the first servo - use the one accross the road! (seems really obvious but blokes line up for hours at the first!?)

I'll be on Stockton this weekend (finally!). Look out for the black HSE playing Led Zepplin on 11 ;)

Generally yes, but as Lokka said it can change overnight, usaully Southern end(Stockton) is harder to drive on after rain and wind and Northern end(Anna bay) is easier, reverse is true when hot and dry.

Myself, my two eldest boys and a couple of mates and their kids camped overnight last saturday. I must admit of all the timers I've driven Stockton it was getting towards the easiest because of the sand. Even my mate and his fully loaded camper trailer (behind a petrol prado) made it up and over some of the back dunes coming on from Lavis Lane.

After we setup camp we went and had a play in the back dunes above silver city and found some reaalllyyy soft drifts.....almost got stuck a few times.

Lots of fun up there, very little comes close to enjoying a nice red wine around the camp fire on the beach....aaahhhhh!!!!!!!!
