Most important thing, what air cleaner are you running and where is it located?
I just cut a hole in the guard for mine, then went to an exhaust shop and got them to bend up some 3" pipe. Also bought a 3" mandrel right angle bend from them. Bought some 3" hose and a ram-top from a truck place.

If you really want to fit a snorkel then you will need to make sure all the intake is up to scratch on these old girls, no point putting a snorkel on if it sucks air from every were down the line on the air filter.
I will be doing the same very soon so keen see how you go .pics pics pics.
cheers

Not the best pic, but you can just see that I have welded 2 tabs on - one that attaches to the windscreen mount, and one to the winscreeen frame itself (using 2 tek screws).
However - I have a hilux air cleaner fitted where the SIII heater goes.
To test that all the pipework is sealed (once fitted) - you just block off the top of the snorkel while the engine is idling, to make sure it stalls.

I fitted a safari snorkel off a 200tdi defender to my old shorty but if you have a holden motor I would be more concerned about the location of the distributer with water crossings

Are you saying that a safari snorkel will fit a Series III? Wouldn't a left hand side one foul the heater fan intake on a Series III? This one perhaps:
Safari Snorkel System - SS525HF (http://www.safarisnorkel.com/snorkel/ss525hf/ss525hf.htm)
As for the distributor, I'm going to wrap some denso tape around the seals to keep it watertight. Denso tape is awesome!!!

mmmmm denso tape (where are you able to still get it)
As for the dizzy just get a pair of womens washing up gloves and slide it over it (they last age's)
As for the snorkal through the guard is the best way and you can always use cheap silicone hose as the bends

Was your Shorty a Series 3? Wouldn't it block the intake for the heater?
Can anyone confirm if a Safari snorkel meant for a County would fit a Series 3? I've contacted ARB, but as yet have not recieved a reply.
The County one is fitted to the other side so it would not block the heater intake. I'm thinking you would just need to grind off the mirror support.
I've also asked Mantec to supply some photos of their latest snorkel to fit a Series. The photo on their website shows it fitted to a Defender!

You should plumb a small airline from the dizzi to the manifold and another from the air cleaner side of the carb. The dizzies dont like been totally sealed, for some reason they need some fresh air flowing.

I didn't have that problem as my shorty was a series 2 with series 3 guards and the snorkel was for a 200tdi, looked great
