Hi All,

I am about to instal Iron Man suspension and change my tyres. Currently I am running the standard size (235) BF All terrains but I would like to fit the mud terrains.
What size is recommended? Ive been told 245/70 16 is the biggest I can go without any cutting, but the MT are not available in that size. Any advice:confused:

Thankyou,

G'day

Depends on what Disco you have? Is it a series 1 ie pre 1999 or a series 2 ie 1999 or later.

I have a 1998 series 1 Disco with standard suspension. I have 245/75R16 (31") Maxxis Bighorn tyres (muddie). The only mod I've had to make is a camel cut to the rear guards (very easy to do and looks factory). You may be able to go 265/75R16 (32") with the suspension lift and some guard trimming, but it would also bog the car down a bit on takeoff. I have heard of people putting 235/85R16 (32") tyres on, and I almost went that way myself, but thought having the slightly smaller 245/75R16 tyres would be better on the engine.

As for series 2 disco's I have no idea.

Cheers

On a series 1 Disco you can go 235/85 but you will need to trim the rear guard a bit to stop the tyre rubbing

Check this site out Bruce, it tells you what size tyres and what needs to be done if required for S1 Disco's

245/75 is a popular size with the 2" lift ( I run this size ) but MAY need a slight trim at the rear - hardly noticeable. It will depend on the brand and profile of the tyre you choose.

But I think the 235/85 looks better on the Disco ( and you can then share spare wheels with any stock Defenders in your group !.) However it's a full 32" tyre so more trimming will be required.
