My 200Tdi had a timing belt replacement interval of 100,000 km. It seems the new 300Tdi says 60,000 km.

I know I need the "Minor Repair Kit", but is 60,000 km correct?

For the record... its done a lot more than 60,000 km since the last time... closer to 80,000 km... even closer to ermm... 137,000 km:angel:.



That aside I'm amazed that the Auto Tdi gets better economy than the manual tdi? How does that work?!?!

Oh and its the absolute shiiiiiit on South Gippsland sand!!!

I thoought it was 80k km. Important thing to check is that you have the relevant update kit fitted - according to VIN.

When i bought the '95 130 with 300tdi, had 160k or there abouts.
was first forestry vehicle till 90k (servive history) then owned by farmer bob on south coast nsw... he assured me it was serviced correctly at the local garage??? it was a good price and i had a donor 300tdi so i went with it anyways... drove i to cairns then straight into the shed for timing belt etc etc

well every bolt in the case still looked new, with the little dob of yellow factory paint...
im guessing original belt from solihul :) a smidge of wear on the outermost edge and the idler bearing was loose"ish" but not rattling...

I bought the mod kit with lipped pulleys, idler and tensioner and have done near enough to 15k on it now????

My guess like all things mechanical- some 300tdi rubber bands will go at 79,000km just before you were gonna change it, and others will happily turn to 179,000km.

Pull the case, see what youve got, work out what needs to be done to get it up to date and drive it? well thats what id do.

- auto overdrive is a higher ratio than 5th on the R380, once locked up in o/d you will pull less revs than a manual for the same speed over ground.

- after owning a disco for 9 years and now the 130, and the fact that the difficult offroad we get up to involves long soft sand work... in my opinion a 300tdi disco on standardish size tyres sucks in sand, compared with a fender, especially towing a bush tinnie. I think its a clearance issue, in soft sand you start dragging the pumpkin which then slows you enough to drag other non rolling components.

Hi All,
AFAIR the 200Tdi (which I still have), originally had a timing belt replacement period of 100k, which was later reduced to 80k. The 300Tdi originally had a timing belt replacement period of 80K, which was later reduced to 60k.

Things may have changed since then but, if so, I haven't heard of it.

It depends what sort of work cycle the car does, trickling along the hwy at an average of 100k or poking around the burbs in peak hour at an average of 20k or working hard off road at low speed and high revs.

If only cars had hour meters....;)

According to L/R W/shop change timing belt (200TDi) in temperate climate operating conditions every 100,000,klms or 5 years.
In tropical or hot, desert or dusty conditions change every 50,000klms or every 2 1/2 years. dont have a 300TDi w/shpo manual, Regards Frank.
