Still working on my 101 and today was supposed to be the big day to get all my brake bits and start installing them - but over shadowed by the Hippo.
Over the past day or so I have been getting the occasional smell of coolant. This morning on the way to get some 101 bits, steam starting coming out of the engine area.
On inspection it was clear that some coolant had been sprayed around but no drip drip. As a precaution I bought 4 litres of coolant and nearly 2 litres went in. When I got home still no drip drip when hot and at idle - hmmm on reving coolant pouring out at the front.
To cut a long story short there is one of those hoses at the front that have no seperate T junctions and they are all moulded - this hose is in fact 3 hoses in one and the main join had a split and there was also another small hole. Why do they put these crappy hoses in.
I ring the stealer - he asks for Vin - I indicate 98 Diesel - sorry cannot help as he has 5 versions listed - I explain there is only 1 - sorry.
So I call back with the Vin - now it is none of the 5 versions and is a different one - none in stock - will have on Monday - good. 4wds in Melbourne price is $155 plus postage - stealer $103. At least that is a win.
As I still need to drive I put the pipe back in and carry 5 litres of coolant with me - is ok for local trips as I am getting 5km per litre of coolant.
I picked up my 101 brake bits - Mastercard is wonderful but 4 rubber brake hoses were $180 - ouch.
When I get home I pull my mobile out of my pocket only to find the screen is busted - that will be another $300 to replace:(
So an expensive and frustrating day - but why do Landrover put these silly radiator hoses in which are designed to fail - I understand Discos have them too.
Grumble
